July 30, 200916 yr Can anyone help please? I am trying to install Project Canarias 2006 and have followed the installation instructions to the letter. The problem occurs when the installation screen opens, I get the message "Invalid Registry Key" which is detailed in the notes and says that you should select the FS9 root folder manually. This I do using the normal browse box that opens and select porgramme files, microsoft games and then highlight the FS9 folder. I then click OK and get "file not found" message. Has anyone else experienced this problem and / or is able to offer a solution? The version of Project Canarias 2006 is V1.0 I believe that this scenery is a stunning piece of work but I am unable to enjoy it as I can't get to the final stage of installation.
July 30, 200916 yr What do you have in this registry key...[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\9.0]EXE Path = Your FS9 Path?Mark
July 30, 200916 yr MarkBy running regedit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\9.0Andy
July 30, 200916 yr What does the key value have in it though...EXE Path =? Does it point to your current FS9 exe folder? For instance, mine has the following value...EXE Path =G:\Flight Simulator 9Mark
July 30, 200916 yr From what I read in the Project Canarias 2006 read me file, the program is looking for your FS9 folder. Now I could be mistaken I haven't installed it yet, but it appears that you may have selected your FS9 folder correctly but there maybe other parts of their installation program which is looking to the registry key value for the correct path. The registry is just like any other folder structure. It has parent and child folders. When you get to the lowest child folder, contained in it are registry key values. They're a lot like the files in a Windows explorer folder. So one of the registry key value names is "EXE Path". That is the name of the key but there is also a value associated with it. That value is what I'm looking for. Its just to verify that your FS9 "EXE Path" value is correct in the registy and nothing more...for now.You may find that it's fine so then I'll have to install the scenery, (or hopefully), someone already has and will chime in because they know what the installer is looking for. So in the meantime, let's verify what you have for the key value of "EXE Path" :)Mark
July 30, 200916 yr Ok, well if I understand you correctly, when I highlight 9.0 folder I get the following info:Name: FIRSTRUNType:REG_DWORDData: 0x00000001 (1)also(Default)REG_SZ(value not set)Andy
July 30, 200916 yr That maybe the answer...OK here goes nothing and keep your fingers crossed. You're going to need to create a registry value I think. Now remember, I'm not sure if this will work but it won't hurt anything so don't worry. Just make sure that you note what you're doing so in case you want to undo it, you can. Once again, we're going to create a registry key so navigate to...[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\9.0]Once you're there, right click in the right side window, (that's the one with the FIRSTRUN value in it), and chose "New" and then "Key" and then "String Value".You'll get a new value highlighted in that window and you need to give it the name..."EXE Path" without the quotation marks.Once the new value has been named "EXE Path" successfully, double click it and a dialog will appear asking you for the new "Value Data". You should put your current FS9 path in there. My FS9 path is "G:\Flight Simulator 9" but yours is probably..."C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9" or something like that. Do not add the quotation marks in the value, just the path.Once you're satisfied that it looks right, try to run the installer again and see if you get the same error message :)Mark
July 30, 200916 yr You know, I probably should have asked you this before but have you ever started FS9 on that system? I mean, have you taken a flight before you tried to install this software? If not, you should run flight simulator at least once before installing anything into it.Mark
July 30, 200916 yr Ok, will try that and will post the result back here in a while. Many thanks for all your help so far!AndyHave been running flight sim for several years with no probs.Andy
July 30, 200916 yr MarkSadly that didnt work either. Still saying Invalid Registry Key and then when I select FS9 folder manually it says Invalid File Name or DirectoryAndy
July 30, 200916 yr What happens when you simply start fs9? Does it come up with any error messages or does it startup OK?Mark
