737-800 flaps 40 approach

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,I was wondering whether this was realistically simulated or not. It seems to me that a normal flaps 40 approach on the 737-800 results in a low pitch attitude and a flare of only 2 degrees pitch up or so...and this is at a normal vref+5 of 142 knots, without any wind correction. Is this normal? It seems to me there should be a little more pitch up attitude needed on final approach. If this is in fact unrealistic, what values in the aircraft.cfg or .air file would i edit to perhaps decrease flaps 40 lift (without messing with lift on lower flap settings needed for takeoff). Thanks for the help.Ben Bain

Hey Ben According to the AOM, in the 737-800 it is only recomended to land with flaps 40 when: braking action reported less than good, tailwind, wet/contaminated runway, deemed prudent by the captain. And as for needing only 2 degrees for the flare do you close the throttles prior to the flare.Kevin Wojtanek

A slight nose up is all that is required regardless.

I was under the impression that a flaps 40 landing was used more often than not in the -800. Guess I was wrong. As far as the flare, I usually cut the power around 30 feet.I fly the 737-700 more often than the 738, and do flaps 30 approaches about 90% of the time. But even on the -700, a flaps 40 approach results in a higher deck angle than on the 738, so I am not quite used to it.You can notice a real difference flying the -700 versus -800. The -800 definitely feels bigger. You can tell PMDG put a lot of effort into it.
