Altitude Record?

Isn't this how Battlestar Galactica 1985 got it's start? Now that the Cylons know where Earth is, they will blow up the Capitol Records building, and insert themselves in other assorted stock footage from the Charleton Heston "Earthquake" movie. Well, there we go, I've got my geek on. Nobody can prevent me from making obscure science fiction movie allusions, at least until this thread gets moved or dies. That, and your 423.11K picture of the new-version Galactica in orbit over Russia? Asia? Some big landmass... will probably get dumped by morning. The forum rules do not allow for pictures larger than 200K! Bandwith is precious, colour depth and full screen resolution much less so. Although if we want to stay on topic, and this is still major geeky, somewhere I have a screenshot of my altitude record with the AlphaSim SR-71 Blackbird, which took off from Beale AFB and nearly made it into space. I took that picture for my AVSIM review of that aircraft, but I can't recall if I included that shot in my review. My record does not make it as high as any of the real world records, not in small part because I am not an elite jet pilot by trade, and my most common vehicle is to fly my desk (although I've been recently making SPAD XIII noises while driving my car). I guess there's always Slew. Sometimes, when I do Reviews, I will Slew the aircraft I am trying out into the upper atmosphere, just to see what it would do with no oxygen. I recall trying that out with the Aerosoft Beaver. Predictable results, but some nice screenshots. Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM

When I saw the subject line for this thread I immediately thought of my RealAir Spitfire which I've gotten up to an astonishing 55,000 ft, but when I saw the pic I thought "Oh well. It looks like it's on for young and old!" I got Captain Sim's Space Shuttle up to whatever height it goes to, and I enjoyed the nice view until my hopeless re-entry skills got me burned like yesterday's bacon. I must try that again sometime!
