August 17, 200916 yr Have a WD 320 Gig External hard drive I just picked up for the sole intent of doing a backup of all my folders/files.I have about 50 Gig to backup (XP O.S.) and started yesterday afternoon.I delayed the process when I hit the rack and picked up again this AM.It apppears as if it's going to take some time to run the process, so far have only gotten about 3 Gig.Is this normal?Cheers,irish3
August 17, 200916 yr "is this normal"yes, at least the way you're doing it. You should use a copy utility like ycopy or teracopy to automate the copy procedure and skip locked files.

August 18, 200916 yr Use a disk imaging program... like drive snapshot, ghost, true image, etc.I use drive snapshot to backup all my drives... and my wifes laptop via USB external hard drive... fast and quick.
