Help! How will FSX run with this laptop?

Featured Replies

So I am in the market for a new laptop. I know its not ideal but I just really need the portability right now.Its a Sony FW series 16'4 inch screen. Here are the specs: Intel

I had very similar configuration not long ago (only the graphic card was from nVidia). The notebook was able to play very fluent on 1440x900 resolution. I usually had more than 30fps, which is mostly enough.

Hi,Here are my specs:T9600 2,80 Ghz, 6 MB cache2 x 2 GB DDR3-1066 RamIntel onboard + Hybrid Nvidia GT130M 512MB DDR3 Card (DX 10)640 GB HD ( 2 x 320GB @ 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, partioned in 4 x 160 GB - of which one partition is exclusively for FSX)17" wide screen (1440x900)Vista HP x64I have done an installation according to a tutorial, and I must say, everything works fine in FSX. The DX10 mode is no problem. My only issue is that my Wilco PIC 737 shows white liveries in DX 10 Preview mode, as well as a white cockpit in the 3D.When switching of DX 10 mode, the 2D cockpit is unclear, and the 3D very clear. My Wilco Airbus V.1 and V.2 are better in DX 10 mode, and show no white stuff whatsoever. Though in the DX 10 off-mode, the 2D is unclear too.But as far as functionality is concerned, both are smooth as butter, especially in the turns (I have read that the PIC 737 might slow things down). After all, PIC 737 has no Vista x64 support (sadly enough). But to answer your question, I have read that laptops with a Nvidia score better with FSX, though I have no idea. My card tends to be a bit better than the Nvidia 9600 series, though what is important is what counts for you. I do not know what my frame rate is, and I do not really care. If the result pleases my eyes and functionality, it's ok. I should say that I had XP with FS9 on a Centrino M 1,73 laptop, with a 4200 rpm HD and shared graphics of 192 MB, and it wasnt as bad, though I have better view with my FSX on Vista X64.I would pay the 150 extra for a better CPU, and would not settle less than 2,8 Ghz. I had personally rather had a T9900 at 3,06 and card like GX260, though, my finances told me no :).You might want to watch some video's on Youtube people have shared with their laptops to get some idea too.C Ya.Ozmanuday
