Landing gear problem in Duke B60 v2
BartEnder replied to Luc Brusselmans's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
Although I do not own the Duke, I recall that issue somewhere - the solution proposed was disabling the crash detection. Please try this and give us some feedback. -
Good day simmers, for those, who do not read the post till the end, I wish all the best for the Christmas and a prosperous 2014! Now, let's go ahead with the topic I am considering the hardware upgrade: - i7 K2600 -> i7 4960X - Gigabyte GTX680 Windforce -> Gigabyte GTX Titan (GV-NTITANOC-6GD-B) - Asus P67 Sabertooth -> Gigabyte X79 Assassin (mostly because it has a lot of USB plugs and handles them well, not like my current MoBo) - 8 GB -> 8GB: 2x Kingston 2x2GB 2133MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM XMP X2 (because I'd like to benefit from Quad Memory Channel) Is it worth investing? Do You have any experience with quad channel memory config? Will the 4960X need HT (I guess no for FSX)? OC? I fly ONLY with 4x SGSS 5960 x 1080. Currently my PC handle this well, but when clouds appear (and they do in winter a lot!), my frames goes to 15-20, which is a no go. Many thanks for all the advises.

REX Texture Direct - Has the Jury Returned a Verdict?
BartEnder replied to Lawyer+Pilot's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
I have purchased it few days ago, but found it difficult to dowload 6 GB of data with no download-resuming support from the PC Aviator. First, the questionare: 1. ASN (previously AS2012) 2. AS2012 3. none Next, the pros: - textures are pretty nice looking, I really enjoyed them (and that was the main reason to purchase that kind of software) - two airport lights sets for Triple screen - big thumbnails of every texture set Then the cons: - There are only one set of few categories (i.e. no choice, only one set of textures) - The GUI scares me with loud 'ding' from speakers every time a user adds a theme. It is a shame I cannot disable it (I guess 'notification' should do that, but I cannot tick it, so I assume it is already off) - There is no detailed description of specific texture - I remember seeing my friends texture set (REX-E Overdrive as far as I remember) - the description was something like this 'The sky You would probably see during summer / winter', 'this clouds will dominate on a windy day' and so on. I miss this a lot. - If You pick up texture after texture, You have to save the theme in order to install it as a one package (and not texture after texture right after You picked them up from the list). - There is no clear indication which texture is currently installed, nor selected to install. - No pre-configured themes - Textures picked up by REX4-TD can only be prepared according to the current weather condition at one station (not historic) and not to the flight plan as in AS2012 - Not possible to exclude specific texture when randomizing a theme Overall I'll rate it 6/10. The textures have 8/10, the GUI and all the cones I was able to found in few ninutes recieves 3/10 -
New "revolutionary" version of Active Sky coming
BartEnder replied to fwerff's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
jcomm, does this means CumulusX is redundant from Monday the 9th Dec? -
LeeL, BK needs an audio signal, no matter if it comes from Your MoBo or external card connected via PCI extension slot. You should be fine with build-in card.

3000 feet runways - possible?
BartEnder replied to bönan's topic in PMDG Turboprops (Legacy Versions)
I believe You are obliged to have at least 5.000ft runway. It is definitely in the documentation, I recall the chapter with operations limitations at the beginning of the book. -
Nice plane (non airliner) for 15000 ft flying
BartEnder replied to billg1949's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
If You intend to go up just to take a look at the vicinity, Aerosoft's OV-10 Bronco would be a good choice. You sit there very high, which gives You a perfect sight for all directions. Besides, there a a lot of other planes which was already mentioned. My personal choice would be the old Beech B-60 Duke by RealAir, the reciprocal one - it has very distinguish flight model and unique feel. -
Go for the stick and a combat sim - Black Shark for the whirpool or Rise of Flight if You are nostalgic. I think purchasing a better card will only allow You to pick little higher filtering, nothing more. I have extended my Warthog grip by 15 cm and instantaneously improved my aiming accuracy in RoF. That is very good joystick - I thing the mechanical quality is pretty high. The software sucks a little, but You do not neet to use it anyway. I have had X45, X52, X52pro and HOTAS Warthog - all the sticks were good, but there is a big difference between the last two from the list.

It should work... Although I have not tested it. You can dig for answers in http://www.wsgf.org/ There are two options - one, to maximize the FSX window (not a full screen) and use a tool (I am sure it is here, at the library), which hides the frame of the active window. The other option would be to use nVidia Surround and fly a full screen, but Your GTX does not support Surround.

That's the type I was in the air fist time in my life time. I still jump in on every airshow in the area just to feel the outstanding 1000HP radial and feel the 'less than 1G' flight (this Antonov produces a lot of lift, which is greatly felt even in the lightest turbulence)
-
That's not a problem - it will be seen by the OS and FSX as one monitor. speedbird144You should be fine with Your setup, providing, You will use one big view instead of multi-views (left, front, right for example). My PC doesn't handle many views very nice, especially in bad weather near big airports.
-
It is not about the size if You ask me, it is about the proper technique. Technique of storing the files. My FSX is 140 GB big. I keep it clean as much as practicable - that means no additional liveries (I do not need them inside the cockpit), no airports, which I am planning to visit in the foreseen future and so on. i also have an 64 GB SSD for all the other stuff (TTS voices, Rise of Flight, OS...) and bigger HDD for backup, externalized to the cloud.
-
Edward, if You provide the resolution of Your monitors, it will help a little. I was using VC view spanned across 3 x 1920x1080@50Hz on GTX280, which was almost enough. Your CPU is fast enough for a nice FSX ride, I am not sure about the graphic card, since I do not know Your model at all. I also noticed, there is no difference between one monitor and three, unless You will set very high nVidia settings (4 x SGSS could be a good example). There is no difference between TH2Go and nVidia Surround. None at all. At least within my rig.

I'll gladly see Gibaba in this topic to take a few words on the product. I know he visit AVSIM from time to time. I am assuming this is a texture replacement, but I may be wrong.

Most Realistic Night Enviroment for FSX
BartEnder replied to callegro's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
By default, the value is set to 4096, and I do believe it is not present in fsx.cfg by default. Add an entry starting with 1024 and go down to 512, 256 or whatever value lower than 4096 which is the stock night brightness. it should be present under [Graphics] section. My favorite setting is 512, with that value I still see the taxiways, in 256 I do not see them, even with taxi lights on some aircraft. I have not seen any difference in DX9 on my system, no matter the value, so I guess FSX in DX9 does not take this parameter into consideration. Just let me know, if You will need any additional information. -
Most Realistic Night Enviroment for FSX
BartEnder replied to callegro's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
I think pretty realistic is DX10 with lowered settings for night lightning: [Graphics] NIGHT_THRESHOLD=256 Also, I am dimming my monitor a bit. It is almost impossible to land on a small strip with no lights. mainly, because it is not possible to locate it without violating plenty of rules. That is my way of getting close to reality. -
I have a ton of GF Stuff and few PFC controllers. My believe is PFC have a better feel, are more precise (comparing to the TQ-6 and some rotaries), but it will be unfair to compare the current GF parts to PFC Yoke - they are totally different constructions. I am afraid You will have to wait for someone to review it.

I think we will lose some competition on the market. My personal opinion for most of the dev's out here is - this is not their job, neither hobby. This is actually their entire (well, almost entire) life. That is why their products are usually top notch and every release raise the bar - name it Milviz, A2A, PMDG or Majestic (in no particular order). They put so much in their every product, that we are more close to our real fellow pilots every few months. I wouldn't want the developers to merge - everyone would develop the most popular birds to earn a share. All the virtual skies will be full of Raptors, Jumbos and Airbuses... Nowadays we do have a very wide variety of planes - the smaller ones and the bigger ones. Why? Because there are big amount of professionals, very serious about their development. Microsoft attempts to make something similar to 'merge' - centralized market, one developer (MS) - it doesn't end up well, because this is not a big market after all... Keep the dev's happy by purchasing most (or even better - all) valuable add-ons and we will have a lot of work for quite a few days.

Yes, You're right. It can be used as a world play. Anyway, that's my actual name, and since the 'Bartłomiej' is extremely difficult to say in some countries, I often use a shortcut 'Bart' I am not a Bar Tender - I would have to be an outstanding Tender, attending and wining most competitions world wide to have funds on that hobby :>

fastest way to clear messed up sid/star data
BartEnder replied to zmak's topic in PMDG 737NGX | 737NGXu
Lowering the level of the automation is the best approach in such approach. Disable V/L NAV, engage other roll command (Hdg Sel, VORLOC) and other pitch mode (FLCH, V/S, SPD) and follow the plate. Eventually, You can catch the airport by hand, but only in VMC. -
For my, the reason is this - the AVSIM community is mainly male-dominated. Every time a woman is active here, she gets a lot of attention, which is what the troll (or more polite a wolf in a sheep's clothes) needs. I have seen this behavior in many different environments, and it works also when a 'pretend-to-be-alfa-super-male' unit enters a female dominated field. Obviously and fortunately, this is not as evident as in a 'men's world'. Topic wide as an KEDW runway... Let's leave it. I'm glad the authorities here constantly keep a humanity-level discussions on almost every topic.

I believe it won't fit while still having flaps and spoiler levers. The older, classic levers fits perfectly.

Try to disable ice effects in VC in config panel. It should be in FSX's PMDG\JS41 folder. There was a lengthy discussion on this flashing at PMDG/Turboprops subforum.
