forum searching results in error
Chas, hoping to have this issue resolved with our newest upgrade. We are crossing our T's right now with our web designer to make sure the look/feel is the same on the latest version of IPB.

Forums with my topics taking ages to load
Upgrade to the new forum software is near which will bring a lot of cool new features and a sleek (yet familiar) new look. We are excited to do this, but we are taking our time to make sure it's done correctly the first time.

Why won't this site let me cut and paste text anymore?
I see what you're saying. You have plain Text mode turned on. You need to make sure the little light switch button on the edit box is clicked. This allows one to switch between plain text and rich text.

Just one - Turbine Duke leaving Santa Barbara
Very nice... Brings back a lot of good memories of flying a couple times in my buddy's King Air on the West Coast. The mountains were always my favorite to see.

Donation Statistics
Thank you everyone for your support and constructive feedback. We are fully transparent with donations, and have a yearly goal of $36,000 or a monthly goal of $3,000. The bandwidth and IT expenses are very real, and these funds go towards keeping the lights on here at AVSIM as well as any future expenses. Nobody at AVSIM draws a salary or compensation for the services we provide the community, therefore, all donations go back to the community. I thought breaking donations up into a monthly goal would be more representative since the bar shows the monthly progress towards that specific goal. However, I'm not sure how to show two progresses (monthly and yearly), so I will just keep it current with Jan through Present.

Official Details for the 2nd Annual Tom Allensworth Memorial Flight
Forgive me, I'm not well versed on all this. If that's the case, then the more the merrier. The different platforms just won't talk to each other, I imagine? As long as everyone is enjoying themselves, I don't see a problem with it.

Official Details for the 2nd Annual Tom Allensworth Memorial Flight
With thanks to Trucker17 and msFlights.net, AVSIM is pleased to announce the official details for the 2nd Annual Tom Allensworth Memorial Flight. Who: All who wish to attend. What: A gathering of friends from around the world to honor Tom Allensworth -- the founder of AVSIM -- who loved the community very much. Knowing Tom, and his selfless nature, he wouldn't want us to grieve or be sad that he isn't here with us, but rather, he would want us to do something in his name that brings joy to us for many years to come. What better way than flying that brings us all together in his memory. The AVSIM Staff and Allensworth family thank Trucker17 for starting this tradition. Server: SimLink - Details on how to connect can be found by clicking here. We will be using SimLink software so that all platforms of FSX can fly together (i.e. Classic, P3D, Steam). Departing: April 9th @ 7pm UTC (3:00 PM EDT) Flight Plan: KAVL>KTRI>KROA>KCHO (*PLN file available here) Communications: We will be using a dedicated room on msFlights.net TeamSpeak server. Server address: ts3.msflights.net. In the interest of cross-community relations we would recommend placing your main community in your Name (eg. [MSF]Novawing24, [AVSIM]trucker17). The aircraft: General Aviation WWII era fighters and bombers Any aircraft that can safely take off and land at these airports Additionally there was a discussion around a repaint tribute to the work Tom did in the Navy, so a repaint of the default Super King Air 350 has been created and released and is available on the AVSIM library. (Thanks to Tristan "Novawing24" Ayton) Memorial Video: A memorial video will be produced using the screenshots and videos taken by community members. We will then provide this memorial video to the Allensworth family and share with the community our gathering. We appreciate any media you can provide for this effort. Links to videos (i.e. YouTube) or screenshots can be shared directly in this thread to keep it all in one place. Flyby's and precision flights are welcome. If you need to set your system up with the systems we will be using before the flight - please set it up and test it before the flight. We want everyone to have an enjoyable flight. This post has been promoted to an article

Donors, where are they?
That is exactly what happened... glad we were able to sort this out and we added your donation to the list. Thank you very much for your support, everyone!

2nd Annual Tom Allensworth Memorial Flight - Date ~ APR 16 (TBD)
Can anyone provide a guide, or a link to a tutorial, on how new users can participate? I know for a newcomer to online flying, the setup can be intimidating, even though it's rather straight forward once you get into it.

Much better front page layout this evening.
It's been a journey, to say the least, learning one basic rule in CSS.. one size does not fit all. Unfortunately some browsers, up until recently, had different call signs for the same styles. The design that makes IE9 crap the bed is a feature called flex... Well, flex is a royal PITA with IE, and it has at least 3 different call signs that I couldn't get to work across the board. I dropped it and went to some basic columns instead of the gadgetry with a layout that looks equally nice and "flexy". I have it almost there with IE9, there's just an odd spacing between the ads and the beginning of the news articles. Will sort that out later. For now it's time to go out, my eyes are watering from staring at lines of text. The front page should look fine on modern browsers as TPerson confirmed. Thank you! Chase

Much better front page layout this evening.
Thank you everyone, learning PHP and CSS had made me an insomniac some nights, but it's a lot of fun. Just a little polishing. I don't think the recent comments sidebar is very helpful either. Just out of ideas for what it can be. Maybe we can put a different more helpful feed up there, just need to think of what. For consistencies sake, it can't be fundamental to avsim (i.e. a navigation menu, helpful links, etc) because a left column isn't available throughout the rest of the site. I think I kept the recent topics on the right column because that's where it is throughout the rest of the forum--this way your eyes are trained and know what area of the page to go to see recent topics no matter where on the site you are.
