September 18, 200916 yr OK Jim, I can take a hint and I've got broad shoulders (LOL). This thread links back to this one and continues the discussion re number of cloud layers to use in FSX.As of this writing I am using three (3) layers and am in the middle of a (saved) flight. Tomorrow I will open my saved flight after changing my ASA settings to 10 cloud layers instead of three. I will see how that works and then will go up to 20 on subsequent flights to see what the visuals look like. I'll try to post screenies as I go. September 21, 200916 yr Author I have finally been able to capture a set of screenies showing the effects of three different cloud layer settings in ASA. To say the least, the results are stunning and somewhat puzzling. All shots were taken at nearly the same location. ASA was allowed to fully load and then run about 30 seconds before the screenies were taken. Follow along:The first shot was taken at a setting of four (4) cloud layers; The next was taken at a setting of ten (10) layers and I have absolutely no idea as to why this huge difference occurred. Jim...anyone?The final shot was taken at a setting of 20 cloud layers. I'm going to leave my cloud layers at a setting of 20 for a while. Interesting results I think. September 22, 200916 yr I Can't view the last two attachments you posted...Interested too see the the results.Am I better off going up to 10 form 5 then based on what you've discovered thus far and what's the performance loss? Thanks Chris Camp
September 22, 200916 yr Author Sorry about that, I didn't read the instructions closely. Let's try this again. The first screenie here was taken using the ten (10) cloud layer setting. Very strange!!This one was taken using the 20 layer setting. This and the four (4) layer setting are pretty much identical.I have found no performance loss when switching from one setting to another, but I've got a reasonably beefy set-up. Dell XPS 730 3.0Ghz core two Duo processor (is that right?) and Nvidea 9300 GTX+ video card. Obviously, the 10 setting is way off base for some strange reason. I have rechecked this oddity a couple of times and it always occurs on my set up. Most strange.Check here for the screenies if all else fails.
