which FSX Version is best?

Featured Replies

Hello allI just purchased a new computer this morning:HP Pavillion Elite Model e9120yAMD Phenom II x4 910 processor 2.6ghz8GB RamI was wondering which version of FSX is the best? I have heard the basic addition wont allow any addons. Is the deluxe addition good to use for addon planes, scenery etc? Also, does anyone think this new system will run it smoothly or should I just stick with FS9? Thanks!!

You should either get Deluxe or Gold, because the standard FSX does not have simconnect which is required for some addons, and the basic does not have the SDK. Deluxe has planes with the G1000 and many special scenery airports. FSX Gold is FSX Deluxe + Acceleration. If you like fighters go for FSX gold. If you don't like fighters just get FSX Deluxe, which is what most people have anyway since Gold came out not too long ago.

Thanks. Now how do you think my system will handle it? I have heard so many horror stories about FSX so I am hoping my computer is strong enouph to enjoy all the features... I forgot my graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 4350

I don't know a thing about AMD processors, but I can tell you that 8gigs of RAM is more than you'll ever need for FSX.The processor is the key in FSX, so get some opinions on that. As for the version of FSX to get, both versions allow most add-ons. As far as I know, ALL scenery add-ons work with all versions. Planes are a differnent story, but almost all work with the regular version. The Acceleration expansion is what segregates the market. Having that expansion is required for some add-on jets, and well as some GA aircraft as well. For the most part, though, and I am in this boat, you'll be able to get whatever add-ons you want with any version of FSX.If you're into fighter jets and real fast planes, get Acceleration for itself anyway. Otherwise either version of regular FSX will do you just fine. The Deluxe version of FSX offers one extra GA plane with skis and transparent cabin for great views (Maul M7), an amphibious twin engine plane (Grumman Goose), and versions of some of the standard planes with built-in advanced GPS capabilites. That's all off the top of my head, though, so there are probably things I'm forgetting. I think it includes an SDK too.The maul doesn't really fill any gaps, but the goose is the only default amphibious plane, so I miss it sometimes. However the Carenado Cessna Caravan, and Realair Scout Package 2007 provide a couple great amphibious alternatives if you go with regular FSX.That's my two cents.

I think your PC will be on par, but you may want to get a faster graphics card, and I'm not sure if the Phenom 910 is just a downlclocked 940 and 960 or has less cache in the CPU, but overall I think your CPU will hold up well. Just get a graphics card like a Geforce 9800, GTX260, or a Radeon 4850 if you want to run above ultra high! My current rig can run over ultra high and still get over 40 FPS, so if you get anything better than an ATI Radeon 2900, or Geforce 9600 you should have great performance.
