September 30, 200916 yr HiNewbie here to FSX but I am a fast learner. Anyway I have now figured out how to do an autolanding using the built in 737 in FSX. I understand the basics of radio navigation and what buttons to push in the right order to get the 737 to land at a major airport. I can even do all of that with good frame rates. My question/request today is for someone out there in the community to double check the ILS for runway 26R at CYVR. The frequency for the ILS DME is 111.95. The reason why I ask for someone more experienced than me to check it is because I think the positioning of the ILS "cone" is skew. The pointy end of the cone that should be on the runway appears to be 100 metres off to the right side on the grass next to the runway. The ILS cone also appears slightly skew if you also look at in the map screen ( from the Alt menu ).I also ask because the ILS is correct for runway 26L and 08. I have a fair idea that the 3D positions of all the radio beacons are in some sort of database within FSX and it would be nice if someone could verify that there is an error in the positin of this one ILS cone.If there is indeed an error in the position of the ILS cone - is there a way to correct it using the SDK? It should also be noted that I do have the really awesome Vancouver+ scenery for FSX installed and the ILS skewness is present even with the add-on scenery uninstalled. And if it matters ( probably does ) I have FSX with Acceleration installed on WinXP-SP3.
September 30, 200916 yr Hello Merlin,I just flew the ILS Rwy 26R in CYVR using the default scenery and you are correct, the localizer beam, while beeing correctly located, is offset from the runway center line by 1 degree. That is enough to make the aircraft touch down some 50ft to the right of the runway edge and slowly re-enter the runway as it gets closer to the end.The localizer of both runway 08L and 08R are aligned at 081 degrees, which is correct. The localizer of runway 26L is aligned at 261 degrees (081+180=261 which is correct), but 26R is 260 degrees. This kind of mistake is not rare within FSX. It can be corrected by changing the alignement value of the localizer using 3rd party software, such as ADE. Look at http://www.scruffyduck.org.uk/ and search under ScruffyDuck download center for ADE9X Curent Version.Best regards, Normand Intel i7 14700K @ 5.6 GHz / Asus ROG STRIX Z790E Wi-Fi / 64GB DDR5 6400 MHz / MSI RTX 4080 / PSU 1000 Watt / FS2020+FS2024 / Windows 11
