World_Lod8

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, my name is William and I am new to tileproxy. Can you tell what Christian means when he says the World_lod8 folder should be below the world folders. Does he mean below them in the list at number 100 or whatever or below them at a lower number ie: number 1 in the scenery library. Sorry I'm so thickThanksWilliam

He means it should be below them phsically in the scenery library list. It should install there automatically though. cheers,Mark

Hi Mark, well thats where I thought it should be only in that position it didn't work. I was browsing the manual and discovered it because I had never seen it working. So I moved it too position 2 as i have my nextgen mesh at 1 followed by the world folders. It's definitely working now and it makes quite a difference to the rate tiles are fed into fsx. Saw a jump from peaks of 200 and something to 1200 plus at times when using already cached files and it changes the look of the water at shorelines I think. Well it might just be an idiosyncrasy of my installation that this happens but the way Christian labors the point in the manual and I have seen him mention it in a post I thought I would double check.RegardsWilliam

Hey William, here is a screeny of where my lod 8 folder is. I have not moved it, this is where it ended up after installation. Can you screenshot where your is exactly? Mine is residing above my FSGlobal 2008 meshes and the standard meshes, but below my other addon meshes from FSdreamscapes etc. When you say " It did not work," do you mean poor performance, or that it did not work at all?Not sure what you mean by position 2 either William - I would be interested to see if A) my folder is in the optimum position and :( What the effects are of moving it and whylod8-2.jpgcheers, Mark

There you go Mark. The addon folder is just my mesh. Well I saw a big performance increase and the water around shores is different.

Thats really wierd then - The manual specifically says it should be elsewhere. Are sure you did not change anything else at the same time? If anyone else is following this thread who knows these things , perhaps they could comment. I am going to re read the manual and also going to try what you have done to see the effect. cheers, Mark

Well it might just be an idiosyncrasy of my setup but it will be interesting to see. Other settings I have changed (though not at the same time) that you might try and see if theres any difference is FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.00 and TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=70. The FFTF is effectively disabled as it's only good for single cores according to other forums but it didn't ever seem to make any difference anyway. The TTBM change stopped a lot of blurring occurring over time. Both settings have been chosen after trolling the MS FSX forums.I'm on 32bit Vista BTW and FSX SP2.RegardsWilliam

Hi William, I myself am still in the dark regarding the exact effect of those two settings. Accepted wisdom is that the FFTF edit is only good in "normal" FSX prior to SP2. But then again, common wisdom is that any setting of TBM over 90 for "normal" FSX is not good. You will notice that Christain recommends a setting of 400. So perhaps he knows something we dont about that as well. I have mentioned this in several threads and I know he reads this forum, but he has never commented on my wonderings...... perhaps he may help us out with his knowledge, who knows... Independantly of me knowing anything about this and TileProxy, I discovered after many weeks of tweaking and asking on various forums, that a setting of 400 when using purely conventional photoscenery and no autogen yielded the best results in terms of getting my photoscenery to display crisply and without loading issues. As Tileproxy is essemtially photoscenery, it follows that is why Christian recommends this setting. I did find however that you needed excellent hardware and proper setting up to maximise its potential. See this thread: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=257118&hl=However, I guess just playing around with stuff is the best way to find what works best for your system. FSX is so varied in terms of hardware and software that you often just have to find what works best for you. Often you will see people find such a setting or tweak that works perfectly for their machine and set up, only to be told by others on the forums that it simply cannot be!!! I say, if it works for you then so be it. All of this experimenrtaion can ultimately be only for the greater good and better enjoyment of FSX for of all of us.cheers, Mark

Do you actually need the World LOD8 folder activated in the scenery library if you are not using any levels lower than 9 or 10? cheers, Mark

Probably not.Regards William
