  1. Sorry guys, was just me being stupid.....I was not using the right key.....
  2. edit: solved
  3. Thanks for the advice David, but how can one set of default settings possibly be correct for all the different hardware set ups etc that possible users may have.........? There are like 40 different settings any one of which could have and does have a big effect lord knows how many combinations that is..........and any number of combinations of more or less powerful cards, monitors, GPU memory etc........the default settings cant be right for all of those......not to mention NVCP, for example, do you need to set anything there, or leave it default ? What am I missing here? I like to understand what I am doing........and I dont understand how this could be. Also, I tried the sim when I first installed the new system build and NVI without changing anything and that was where I got the worst performance. I tweaked a few settings and managed to get it about 20% better, but that was it.......... rgds, Mark
  4. Hi, I am starting another thread as my last request for help got lost in sea of replies slagging off win10 and people saying told you so...... Basically, to all people running win10 and an SLi setup, would you mind sharing your NI, NVCP and in game settings, as my P3d install is running at around half the speed it used to before I updated to the final build. Used to get around 50 FPS, now around 25. I know it can work very well, I had it working very well, but the elusive combination of correct settings eludes me for now...thanks PS, I have looked on Robs's site, but there are 2 different pages of NI settings there for 2 drivers, neither of which I am using ....(353.62)
  5. Damn I wish.....same drivers and I cant get much over 25 FPS, when I was getting 50 -60 on previous build / driver combo's....... Would you mind giving details of all your settings for me to try please? (NVCP, NI and in game) Thank you
  6. Myself and many others here have had it working very very well.......it's not a question of the OS or platform being no good, rather a matter of finding\ the right combination of settings for your PC, which I obviously did before. Just hoping someone can save me some time, as I have definitely spent way more time tweaking than flying since I got my new PC.......
  7. Hi OK< been a bit busy with work etc, but finally got time to upgrade. I have P3d running at around 30 FPS in non SLi and between 23 & 30 with SLi enabled....... Can someone who has win10 and is running SLi, please post up their settings for NVCP, Nvidia inspector and in game, as this is very frustrating, after I had it working so good......Thanks, your help appreciated, Mark
  8. Ok, after some fiddling around, I am up to about 22- 28 FPS average, whereas before, I could pretty much guarantee double that.........My nvidia drivers are the latest, how do you manually get the system to update to a newer build? cheers, Mark
  9. Hi, I had to re install P3d after I (to my eternal shame....!) inadvertantly deleted some p3d registry files when uninstalling something. I am and have been for several months a windows insider user of win10 and had P3d running very well, 50-60FPs and great visuals. I also auto upgraded to the latest rollout of win10, build 10162, so the machine is clean and only has windows and p3d clean install on it. I have 2 GTX 970's in Sli, which were also working great with p3d. Current win10 NVidia drivers are 353.30, auto installed by windows. Imagine my consternation when I found that on running the sim, I was only getting 10 FPS...I turned off SLi and it rose to around 15, but it's still running real slow......I have unlinked the .exe from NVidia inspector, but don't really know what else to try.....I can't believe I am running at 20% of what I was before...... Any ideas as to what could possibly be the issue? Thanks, Mark
  10. Hi, I am running windows 10 with a 5820 and 2 970 in sli. P3d runs very well, I don't need much AA with the 4K monitor, my game settings are: MSAA 4 SSAA 0 FXAA 1 TBM=30 FPS=0 TexMaxLoad=30 I usually fly the superbug or A2A GA planes and use photoscenery with fullautogen trees ( from Nuvecta) I have textures max 4096 The sim runs butter smooth between 35 -45 in heavy clouds and 40 - 60 anywhere else, with ASN. I would say great bang for the buck using 970's and a 4K monitor. My monitor is a 40 inch 4K as well, so looks awesome. Using 352.63 drivers Hope that helps
  11. Hi guys, I am running a 4K monitor on 2 x GTX970's.......I am getting 50 FPS with complex planes like the superbug, , REX clouds at 4096 and auotgen trees over my photoscenery. P£D takes a lot of playing with to find settings that work best for you, i did nothing but tweak for about 4 weeks to get mine running right.........I would persevere with the monitor, its awesome for me......
  12. Hi, firstly, I dont have vsync enabled, either in P3d or NVCP. I have tried with it enabled and disabled and it makes no difference. The issue I have is a kind of a tear, horizontally when I pan, its quite fluid though, and visually disconcerting as it makes the scenery "swim". It does it whether you use Track ir or not. Does anyone have any ideas where I should look to try and sort this out ? I have 2 GTX 970 in SLi and its a recent issue, I dont remember having it before and I am pretty sure I have not changed anything that would do this... Cheers, Mark
  13. Hi onebob, I dug a little and turned up that thread, but I think you misunderstand my issue.....my track ir works, ( I had to do the simconnect install thingy to make it so, but it works....) My issue is the stuttery panning, not actually getting the software to work, but thanks anyway.
  14. Hi, I have my P3d install working pretty good, but one niggling issue remains, track ir. It works, but it's pretty stutterry when you pan. I have tried all variations of smoothing in the control panel, and am wondering if its something else, to do with Vsync or something. Perfomance in the sim is pretty good, average 40 FPS, so I dont think its that. I have a 4K monitor, and dont have Vsync turned on and run unlimited frames. Can anyone give me any pointers? Thank you!
  15. Hi, I have had an issue develop with My trackir software as well....as soon as I start it, it cause windows to blue screen or freeze. I am running win10 and its been fine for 5 weeks, just started doing it now.....no updates as far as I can tell either, so not sure where to look. Have re installed software, makes no difference....
  16. Hi, I have a strange issue with my new PC, that I am hoping some of our more tech savvy members might be able to advise on. My PC is brand new, and just has P3d and associated programs on it. It's also pretty powerful, I have been transferring over files of photoscenery and mesh from my old PC. I might add I am running the tech preview of win10, and its been performing brilliantly so far. However, today, it suddenly started freezing windows in explorer, I copy a folder over and for the next 5 minutes after the files are copied, my CPU is at 30 -40% and the windows will freeze . you can force explorer to restart and stop this, and I have run full malware scan, and system diagnosis, and found nothing. Previously everything was supersnappy and fast, now not. Where should I be looking, what would cause this? I looked in task manager, and it just lists windows explorer as the main resource hog. Any ideas, thanks
  17. Hey Mike thank for the explanations. I like to fly low and slow in GA planes or low & fast in the superbug! hence my obsession with the scenery looking good....... I used to use Tileproxy when flying FSX and that set your TBM at 400 automatically, ( obviously no autogen) and it certainly had a very noticeable effect. What is not clear from LM, is why for example, they have locked the LOD radius at 6.5 and also how these variables in the cfg all interact with each other -IE, if you change one, do you need to change another to see best effect. It's clear there is still a lot to learn - hopefully the guys at LM will keep the information flowing, as certainly, "a little knowledge is dangerous" in this situation. It's really pure luck I have ended up with what I consider acceptable performance and scenery loading so it very much still trial and error, with a large amount of contradictory and confusing stuff on the various boards. Keep up the good work!
  18. Its still a country mile better than Orbx or standard scenery........
  19. Oh dear, I just splurged....obscenely good value....for example, whole of italy for £12......I brought 15 items!! Thanks for the heads up!
  20. Hi Mike, great idea and thanks for taking the time. I have just gone through the whole same migration & setting up process myself, and it is indeed very confusing and involves a lot of trial and error. Not helped by the somewhat vague explanations on the LM tuning guide page ( For example, the TextureMaxLoad=6 setting - they say "it's great for photoscenery", but don't elaborate or tell how the variables work or what the range of settings is...) I now have my install running very nicely, at around 50 - 60 FPS, with Rex textures, ASN, VRS superbug and high settings, but it took me several frustrating days of changing stuff.... I had a couple of questions after looking at your cfg file entries; ( bear in mind I run photoscenery only) texturemaxload what made you pick 30? What is the effect? I have mine in at 6 as per their guide but did not notice any real effect... TBM - I see you have it at 400 - I use this setting in FSX when using photoscenery or tile proxy and it helps massively with the loading of crsip max res tiles. How did you arrive at this setting? Does not seem to have the same effect in P3d. I think this is tied in to the LOD radius setting, which is locked at 6.5 in P3d. For me, in FSX, I can run at 10.5 and this gives crystal clear tiles all around ( I have a beast PC & a 4K monitor) I see in your settings page you have the LOD radius set midway, why is that? The one issue I do have in P3d is that there are noticeably low res tiles much nearer than in FSX and I can't seem to change this, no matter what I tweak.... Affinity mask - I also have a 6 core CPU, did you find any noticeable improvement using this? Why don't you run water at Ultra - you don't get the wave effects unless you do....... There are certainly some entries in there I will try , thanks again
  21. Thanks for the input guys. For what its worth, I will tell what I discovered last night. I looked up a thread by Vic in which he details his P3D , Ni & Nvidia control panel settings, which I was interested in as his hardware was the same as mine ( 2 x GTX 970 in sli) I copied all his settings and my performance tanked, under 20 FPS. I got to thinking and started again from scratch with a fresh .cfg file and wiped the NI & control panel settings. My reasoning was that why chase performance by stressing the GPU's pushing out all that antialiasing etc, when I have a 4K monitor? Sure enough, just using the in game aniso setting of 16 and no antialiasing, I have superb clear rendering and my FPS pretty much doubled. I locked it at 30 FPS and the sim is silky smooth and awesome even in full clouds using A2A planes. So, as long as you have a GPU capable of running the resolution for the 4K monitor, this may be an easier way to approach the problem, if you dont mind investing in a new monitor. Now I just have to figure out the optimal tweaks for the photoscenery loading ..... Cheers, Mark
  22. I read you Vic, and I have indeed just spent the last 30 minutes reading through the post and am none the wiser, although my head cold may have something to do with it....... I thought it was more complex than just understanding how binary works... I thought the right setting related to the CPU, your graphics card etc and which cores you would want to enable and not enable, which is not immediately apparent, hence my question. Cheers, Mark
  23. Hi Rob, you mention you are using ASN with P3D 2.5, I also have ASN, & 2.5 but I get an error message saying the 2 are incompatible ( wrong version...) So I have uninstalled it. On the HiFi website it says the version for P3D is compatible with P3d V2.4 only.......Could you clarify how you got yours working? Thanks!
  24. Dear Steve, I hope you dont mind getting bombarded with advice requests, however, may I ask what AM setting you would recommend for my new 6 core 5820K CPU, its overclocked to 4.2 Ghz Thank you !
  25. Hi, I have opus installed on my old PC, have just got a new PC, on which I am using Prepar3d and slowly migrating stuff over. Will probably use the old PC as a networked PC for FSX at some stage. So, I have 2 issues, first, not sure where I purchased opus from to get licence details, second, is the Opus FSI a free upgrade and third, Can I install it into my new P3D install ? I have Rex textures and clouds. Thanks for your help
