Head wind/tail wind responding opposite

Featured Replies

I don't know if it's AS or if this is a real life occurrence. During my climb I go through several wind changes, when I receive a tail wind either in climb or what really wonders me when im in level cruise flight the tail wing SLOWS the plane, and the auto throttle has to add power to return to my set speed. And the opposite happens when it's a head wind. The plane gains speed and the auto throttle slows down the plane to correct for the sudden gain.Is this supposed to happen? I think not right? Like tail winds should give me more speed right? Not slow me down... Adam

In my experience, to tame the wind shift demon, you either need to have DWC turned on, or have it off with FSUIPC's wind smoothing feature enabled.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

Hi,This isn't an AS situation, but I was recently reading a post somewhere, where yes this is the case in FS, and if I remember correctly in the real world too.

Adam,What you are experiencing is correct and normal, and has no direct relation to ActiveSky. What might be confusing is the change in indicated airspeed (IAS) vs. ground speed (GS). Assuming constant pitch is maintained: While the tailwind is increasing, the IAS decreases seemingly 'slowing you down'. Auto-throttle then adds power to return to the IAS you have set on the AT. In doing so, your GS increases and you are now 'going faster'. :( (Eventually as the wind & IAS stabilize, power is once again reduced.) The converse applies for a headwind. Warm regards,Joe
