static aircraft placement?

Featured Replies

Hi- What would be the tool/method of choice for placing static aircraft at an airport? I recently bought Air Traffic FX thinking that the static aircraft placement function would do the trick (and it does) but everything disappears once you close FSX and then you get to do it all over again. I'm thinking this is a scenery issue but not sure how to proceed.Thanks,Mark

Hello Mark, For a start, you can try placing the static aircraft models included in FS X using the Object Placement Tool, also included.For an explanation of its use, please see:Make Scenery with the Object Placement Toolhttp://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?&DLID=96257Best regards.Luis

Thanks, Luis. What I'm trying to do is place UT2 aircraft statically at KSEA. Those probably won't be found in FSX object libraries.I was wondering if there is a tool or procedure that would allow creation of a library of those aircraft models whereby I could place them like a regular FSX object.Thanks,Mark

Hello Mark,Those aircraft are most likely already in an object library bgl and declared in the scenery library. If so, then they will show up in the list of objects in the Object Placement Tool. All FS X-style objects will appear in that list, and even many FS 9 objects. They can all be placed using the Object Placement Tool.Best regards.Luis

The best option for existing SimObjects (UT2 aircraft) would be to make a set of AI flight plans that have the planes leaving and arriving in the middle of the night. Other times they will be sitting at the airport. Realize that if they are sitting, they are occupying a parking spot that other UT2 traffic might utilize. I'd make sure I had, or made, a new airport file with plenty of parking spots. Check out AIFP by Don Grovestine for a good tool to make flight plans.

Thank you for the correction. I do not know what UT2 does and assumed it was a terrain package.If those AI aircraft were compiled using the FS X game pack, then it is easy to take the model (MDL) files in their Sim Objects folders and compile them into an object library bgl. Then, that bgl can be placed in any declared scenery folder and placed by the Object Placement Tool as static aircraft.Best regards.Luis

Ben & David,Thanks I will try this. I am still figuring out how to get the real non-static aircraft to appear from some of these gates. It seems that even though the airline codes are labeled, that sometimes aircraft still appear in the junkyard gates or the hanger even though they are not supposed to.Thanks again,George
