Another monitor question

Featured Replies

Greetings,I am in the process of a new computer build specifically to run Fsx. I now need to select a monitor and am thinking of 23 to 28 inch range. I only want one monitor and what are the advantages of going with a 1920x1200 resolution. What does this give you over a slightly lesser resolution? One company I am working with on the build said that the 1200 one was the way to go.Thanks in advance,Chuck B.

The only problem I've encountered with 1200 mode is that my cable box can't scale to that resolution. Therefore I'm stuck with a 1080 signal being stretched by the monitor to 1200... not good results at all.

AVN8tr,Thanks for the response. I am not quite sure what you mean by cable box though.Chuck B

Definitely go with the 1920x1200. Lesser resolutions on monitors 23" and above give you a washed out blurred look compared to the sharpness you will get with a resolution of 1920x1200. You will not see any difference in frame rates going with a lesser resolution monitor as opposed to a 1920x1200 one.Bill

Bill,Thanks for the response. I was wondering how you like your 24 inch Dell? I have been doing some research and it seems to get pretty good reviews. I have had several Dell computers in the past and have been happy. This time I am going with a Maxforce build but I am open to a Dell monitor.Chuck

Hi Chuck,I really like my Dell 24". It is 3 years old now, and I have never had a problem with it. The newer Dell 24" monitors are made from parts from different suppliers now, so I am not sure how they compare. Bill

Thanks to all who answered, I appreciate your advice. As long as we are on the subject, I have been looking at 24" monitors with the higher resolution. Seems like there are more options at 5ms than 2 ms. Will that slower refresh time really make a difference? Thanks again,Chuck B.
