Is there a flight planner like Goodway for FSX?

Featured Replies

I recently purchased Goodway flilght planner for X-Plane. I really like the way it can download weather and then automatically calculate a route, including proper SIDs and STARs, based on that info.Is there a comparable "no brainer" flight planner for FSX?Wilson

I don't beleive there is any flight planner specifically designed for FSX. I know the Flightsim Commander will work with it, but I've never really liked the interface like I did with FsNav and FS9.This is an area that I would really like to see some brilliant designer to hit!Ken

None that I know of. I'm wondering how valid those SID/STARS would be as weather changes occur all the time. FSX will clear you for the proper takeoff runway based on current weather conditions and will also select the best runway to land. This is why FSX has a basic flight plan (which you can edit to include SID/STARS if you desire). The pilot and ATC can make changes as weather conditions demand. You can also change the flight level on demand if nasty weather conditions dictate (I have done so several times!). You can request a change in FL anytime after arriving at your original flight plans altitude. FSX also gives you the opportunity to tune to the proper COM in order to receive the latest weather conditions and the current runway for landing and departing (I suspect X-Plane does the same). IMHO this is more realistic than setting everything up at the beginning of the flight. So, while X-Plane has a "no-brainer" flight plan, FSX allows you, the pilot, and sometimes ATC to make critical decisions. In defense of your Goodway flight planner though, I think it would be nice to have the option to set up a "no brainer" flight plan as you discussed and maybe someday a developer will come up with something like this.Best regards,Jim Young
