November 30, 200916 yr Hey All,A couple weeks ago I downloaded and installed Javier's verison 2 of his USS Nimitz. Prior to this I had wakes on my AI ships while they were moving. However, following the install (perhaps I made a mistake, I just copied the new files over the old) I found that my carriers did not have wakes anymore. In fact it turned out that none of my ships had wakes and I also did not have the steam effects that were added. I've already gone through the Acceleration files and recopied any effect file that said anything about a wake. This didn't help and I know need help tracking down the problem. Where do the wake effects originate from and where should I look to see that all is in place? Please, any help appreciated as the reference frame is really lost without the wake.Eric Eric Szczesniak
December 1, 200916 yr The effects files in the Nimitz package are additions to FSX, they do not overwrite/replace any existing files. It almost sounds as though something turned off animations in FSX, which would trigger the wake effects and smoke?
December 1, 200916 yr Author The effects files in the Nimitz package are additions to FSX, they do not overwrite/replace any existing files. It almost sounds as though something turned off animations in FSX, which would trigger the wake effects and smoke? That sounds like a great thought...I was kind of assuming I had some effect or setting somewhere set too low or turned off or something. I just can't find anything logical that would do that. The only thing I could think of is the "special effects" settings, but I have that as "high".What I have noticed is that if I change the display settings a "grayed out" wake shows up behind the carrier for an instant while the textures load. Is it possible that somehow the carrier has changed is "water level" and the wake is getting lost below the ocean texture? Just a thought. Eric Szczesniak
December 2, 200916 yr The files you are most likely missing are the following:fx_1.bmpfx_2.bmpfx_3.bmpfx_4.bmpfx_5.bmpCertain addons overwrite, OR remove these files upon uninstalling. You can tell if these are missing if there are black wakes, contrails, smoke and other effects instead of the standard white ones. Black = missing, not being rendered.Always back up your Effects/Textures folder after a new install of FSX.
December 2, 200916 yr Author Turns out that the issue was the effects/textures folder. I don't use things like the "smoke" feature, but hadn't been able to get it to work on Aerosofts F-16 Thunderbird and just recently I had noticed that the FT ERJ v2.0 i had purchased had no touchdown smoke. Turns out I probably had lost a number of these files quite some time ago and I just kept attributing the effects to quirks of these add-ons. Guess I know better now. Eric Szczesniak
