Will REX for FS2004 greatly improve what I'm using now?

Featured Replies

Hello all:I'm a dedicated FS9 user and had tweaked my visuals several years ago to a level that left me very satisfied. I'm using UT, FE, GEPro, 38 mesh, BEV, AEU7 and a host of add-on third party airports (from ImagineSim; Fly Tampa, etc). I'm running all of this on 3 21" monitors using TripleHead2Go and running a 4th (17" monitor) for ATC and GPS and using TrackerIR, and LOTS of GoFlight modules. Yes, I've been a serious simulator user for over 20 years. Without getting into the nitty gritty concerning my processor, RAM, video card, etc. I have my FPS locked at 30 and with the most complex aircraft, most complex airport and in moderately detailed weather/clouds get around 12-15 FPS and 22 -30 FPS the rest of the time using other detailed aircraft, airports, etc.I just reviewed the REX website for the new release, read some of the forums, checked the screenshots, etc. .....even perused their newly posted PDF manual. It is a neat product and I'm VERY interested in buying it.......BUT, HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:Do you think that this all-in-one product will substantially improve the visuals that I'm already getting as compared to the 6 other separate graphic programs I mentioned above? Will I take a FPR hit if I install it?I am seriously concerned that I don't want to do anything to "screw up" the way my system now runs. Do I risk that by installing REX for FS2004? Will it install seemlessly OVER UT, FE, GEPro, BEV, AEU7. If so, and I later find out that I would want to restore my system to its current visuals (for whatever reason??) would I be able to do it? ..................and finally (whew).................Will it alter any of the add-on airports? I know I asked a lot of questions here.....I hope that many of you smart folks can provide answers for me.Thanks in advance,Mike

I don't have REX, yet, but i will grab my copy soon as servers get's free a little. As far as i know, REX don't have any problems with other add ons, like those you mentioned above. GE is for ground textures, REX only change sky, cloud, and if you want runway textures. The only thing you don't need any more, is Flight Environment, cause REX is the same thing just way better than FE. But also you don't need to uninstall FE, just leave it there and don't use it.

My Specification: I CAN RUN FSX IN MAX SETTINGS....i don't care about dell, bell, amd, intel, 60000 wats power supply or alien made graphic card....

btw, the server should be fine now. I downloaded the 900mg file in under 20min....got an average of 500/kbs ...and i'm in Singapore!-feng

Could you post a screenshot of how your FS9 world looks now? I have been using the FSX REX for some time and I absolutely love it. I have bought REX FS9 myself yesterday and installed it too. I haven't tried it out, yet, though, because I was very tired and went to bed. I'm sure that at least for me it will have revamped the FS9 world beyond recognition.

Good morning,What would you like to see....can you please be more specific? Since I'm running multiple monitors I don't think a "screenshot" would work, but I can run my set up and try to take some digital pics for you if you'd like.R/Mike

Thanks for your reply. Let me see if I understand. Although FE does a decent job with the colors and types of sky, etc. Once installed REX will take over with its own sky textures and those of FE will be automatically saved in a backup file.....all without any action on my part?My understanding is that Ultimate Terrain gives the sim the ground textures/special night lighting AND Ground Environment Pro works together with it. Depending on what you choose (weatherwise, specifically with the amount of cloud cover) GEPro's textures alter the appearance of the ground colors to appear more correct, for example, when flying under "partly cloudy conditions". BEV (Bird's Eye View) provides different sets of textures for the trees/foliage (bodies of water...I think?) and some other things. WHEN I ORIGINALLY INSTALLED ALL THREE OF THESE TOGETHER....I did it because of an article/review in AVSIM (a few years back) that said this combination would greatly improve the eye-candy in FS2004. And...for me, and others, it had. So....would REX also work with UT (and not change it's night lighting in the countryside and in cities)? Would REX still interact and work with GEPRO (or would it over-ride it and save GEPro textures to a backup file?). How would REX interact with BEV? Lastly, AEU7 (Airport Environment), a free download, improved the generic looking FS2004 airport buildings, taxi-ways, runways, signage, etc. REX provides new (and very nice) taxiway, RR (especially WET runways...yea!). Would I need to try to uninstall AEU7 (not sure what that would involve?) to avoid any conflict with REX (or would REX also override and save AEU7 files?). Again.....I asked lots of questions, but I need to know.Mike
