Windows 7, ASX and simconnect

Featured Replies

Morning everybody,I took the jump and installed both Windows 7 and FsX.Now, I am using the 64bit version of windows 7 (which is running fine) on the main PC with FsX installed.I also installed SP1 and acceleration pack of fsX and the SDK's.First the one from the DVD, then SP1a and then the one that came with the acceleration dvd. While I was installing those sdk's I saw that there is only one version allowed... SP1a removes the original one while it is self removed by installing the SDK that came with the acceleration pack.(I assume that is correct?)Active SkyX was freshly installed on my laptop (without ASX graphics).I followed the instructions of the network connection:- I can access all three folders on my main pc from within the explorer on my laptop. (I can read the files, I can write files and I can change files)- Next I configured port 500 to be open on both the main pc as on the laptop+ then came the confusing part.As mentionned in the manual, I found an example of a simconnect.xml file in the SDK. However, the example I found was quite a large file with numerous optional settings.Since I don't know anything about .XML I just don't know what I have to leave in and what to remove.- I installed the simconnect.msi that came with the SDK with the Acceleration pack on the laptop and made sure that the Simconnect.cfg had the same data as my simconnect.xml.+ testing with the aitraffic example doesn't work so I must do something wrong. The example works when run on the main pc but when I try to run it on the laptop nothing happens. Can someone share his simconnect.xml file with me? I am lost here. Thanks for the assistanceLuc BrusselmansBelgium

morning again, here's an update on the progress of finding a solution for my problem:- I still need some clear answers on a few things1. I thought that the fsX SDK was to be installed on the main pc, so that's what I did.2. after installing the original SDK (let's call it version 1), I installed on top of the original one a version called SP1a.Can I assume that this is the version that was included in Service pack 1 fof FS-X?3. There is also another (newer) version of the SDK that was included on the Acceleration pack DVD.Do I need to install that one to?4. Where do I install the SDK's. Server or Client? If on the client, do I still need to install SimConnect.msi on the client to?5. After installing SP1a of the SDK I can't seem to start the aitraffic.exe anymore. Clicking the executable gives me an error stating that the program cannot be executed because it is not configured correctly.... and that I should/could install it again....6. Do I NEED fsuipc? If not, does in any way interact with simconnect If I do have it installed on the server?Beside the answers I still am looking for, I did some checking...- Both the server as well as the client belong to the same 'workgroup'- the three locations that have to be shared between server and client are indeed shared and can be wrtiiten to from within explorer on the client. In fact when I start ASX on the client, some files are written to the "C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX" So I guess sharing is ok.- I checked the server adress and made sure that same adress is duplicated in the Simconnect.cfgI am getting very frustrated here..Luc BrusselmansBelgium
