December 7, 200916 yr After much wrangling and trying various settings this is my take on this product:The Bad:1. Background Sky Textures - I find all of them for the most part unusable for my tastes.2. Pitch Black Night - Some may like this but in the real world your eyes adjust to night conditions and it never stays this dark for anyone unless the said person is in need glasses. The feature within itself works as advertised though.3. Gui - The main thing I don't like about this is how slow it is. The option to fully restore your original setup doesn't work and even though you don't have the boxes checked the configuration utility still overwrites things like water textures. The Good:ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING ELSE....Outside of the three things I mentioned this add-on is outstanding hands down. I had to revert back to my original ActiveSky 6.5 sky textures (which for me is the best around as they work best with haze giving FS9 just the right atmospheric feel). I find ZINERTEK - ULTIMATE WATER ADVANCED is still the king for FS9 in the water department. REX doesn't come close and of course the Pitch Black option had me pulling my backup files out to restore my original night effect. That being said this add-on's clouds alone is worth the price of admission. I use the 'Cumulus 17' option for clouds which gives the right amount of puffiness. What I'm finding with REX is the sim performance in the clouds has greatly improved. Flying through the clouds gives a true since of speed now versus what Activesky's clouds gave. You put those two together and you have a winner (not to mention using ASV for weather depiction). The clouds are far more realistic in appearance than I thought they would be especially when flying above them. Most of the shots we see look outstanding from below looking up but above looking down is truly phenomenal, it will take you back to any airline flight you've been on especially if there was weather below you. The speed in which you can now see yourself move over and/or through them is very cool. KMEM to KMSP had a little weather for me to fly over with my PMDG MD11 and I must say it looked outstanding (REX and ASV is an awesome combination). The Environmental effects look great as well which gives FS9 more of a refined feel like what we see in Feng's screenshots minus the Bloom effect he uses. I'm now starting to get really close to Feng's depictions which is great when now all one has to do is install a couple of add-ons versus patchwork from 10 different scenery packages. I'd say now with Activesky's sky textures, Zinertek's water, and Rex what you see in Feng's shots can just about be had with a third of the work he put in. The new taxi runway textures look great as well and the night lighting options enhance in a way I wasn't expecting (taxiway light's, etc). All in all after a little time with this add-on I'd recommend it to anyone. For the most part in my book it has lived up to the hype surrounding it before release. Nothing is ever perfect but if only one real concrete deficiency is all I could find (background sky texture) then I'd say this one is a winner especially if it's boosted my sim performance in the clouds and speed through the clouds is now realized.
