December 12, 200916 yr Hello All,Here's another quick newbie question for all you pros to answer:Do small, privately owned airports have to be listed on aviation sectional charts? For instance, I enjoy virtual flight in NY State and there are several private small fields I like to takeoff and land from (some that come to mind are 1NY2, 1NY1, near the Pulaski/Sandy Pond area). When trying to locate these fields on the NY sectional, however, they do not seem to be referenced. Interestingly, though, SkyVector.com does "see" these airfields in its Flight Planning Tool and you can include these in your flight plan - however, they don't appear to be displayed on the sectional itself. So, please clarify whether smaller fields like these are sometimes omitted from a sectional (perhaps for clarity and available printing space issues). If this is so, I'm wondering how pilots workaround this for their flight planning - I would think it would make the sectional charts for these types of fields less useful or practical.Another question that comes to mind is can the owner of a private airfield elect to not have his/her airfield published on a sectional (e.g., similar to a home owner electing to have an unlisted phone number in the phonebook)?I appreciate you helping me to understand this better.
