I am have been doing a clean install of fsx. 2 issues have surfaced.the first is I mistakenly opened the fsx cfg in notepad for edits and I forgot to uncheck the box to always open with np. All my cfg's changed to note pad. I went to folder options and the cfg in there is, notepad. Anyone know how to restore the orginal. Btw I deleted it and it came back in notepadNext the saitek rudder pedals. They will not keep the brake axes. this is the only command they wont hold. It will not keep a bullet the "advanced controllers" in the calibration tab either. If any one has a solution please let me know asap. I have been reinstalling this and all the addons for almost 2 weeks I just want to fly!thanks in advance!Eric

Not sure I understand your concern regarding which program opens cfg files. They are only text files. They will still be read and acted upon correctly by the sim. Many of us have cfg files "associated" with Notepad so they will automatically open in Notepad if we wish to do any editing - just by clicking on them. Can't help on the other part of your question.

I don't know about the second problem but if you do not want NB to open.cfg files, right click on the file, click on Open with and choose what text application to open it with and CHECK THE BOX that says Always use this program to open this type of file, or words to that effect.......normael

'Opens with Notepad' is correct for all cfg's, including fsx.cfg. Therefore, you simply have to dbl-click to open any file with 'cfg' extension and it will open in notepad. You then 'Save' (not 'Save As') the file back to it's oringal location, overwriting (automatically) the file you have open (notepad is able to know which file you are working on if you have 2 'cfg' files open). If you do 'Save As' (not recommended-too much unnecessary work) then you have to browse to the file, click 'OK' and then confirm you want to overwrite it (with a 'Yes'). So if you 'right click+open' you run into 'Open With' program choice and that 'Always...' button, which is not necessary. Just Double-Click the cfg file to open it with NotePad (the correct program). It's the ONLY way to do it-why struggle.Prior to making changes, you can right click cfg (or air) file, click 'Copy', then right click anywhere, and click 'Paste' to make a 'Copy of XXX.cfg' (or xxx.air) for backup purposes. When you do 'Save' it will overwrite the original with your new entries, changes, edits, which is what you want (as you have the file backed up with the 'Copy' & 'Paste' operation).I don't have pedals so can't help with 2nd part of question. But there are lots of posts on subject. Best to go Google and enter question for best search results and also go to manufacuter's site's forum for better info. Too many posters 'quess' and that is not productive. Entertaining, but not productive.Chuck BNapamule

RE: Saitek rudder pedals. I assume you have the left/right toes selected in the axis tab menu. You also need to check the boxes for "Reverse," otherwise the axis for the toe brakes are bassackwards. Just a little glitch in FSX.

I will try that, thanks! I dont remember how they were set up before. what I did find was if I check "do action when released" thats when they wont keep.I did get the cfg back to normal.

Actually, not a glitch technically, but a simple solution to a generic problem. In FS ALL advancing/enhancing motions are `+`, all retarding are `-`. However, all pedals work the same way by recognising the application of brake as a POSITIVE force, rather than a NEGATIVE - or retarding force. Therefore as the sim developers and the hardware developers disagree about what constitutes a `+`, the elegant and simple solution - built into the sim by the game developers, is to allow the positive to convert to a negative by the simple expedient of checking a box! While I am the first to criticise the game developers for shoddy practices and a bassackwards job, you unfairly malign them on this occasion., The problem is that hardware developers cant recognise that brakes are for hmm, yes, well, let's see... ah yes! Braking. And the reason for this, just to complete the story, is that the tilt function of pedals is also used to accelerate and brake in car sims and games, where the developers follow the different convention of allowing the braking force to be a positive, yet still retarding force...Alles Klar? (zere vill be qvestuns later) :(
