December 25, 200916 yr Author Commercial Member Jay, I've got audicity (forgot to mention that) but how do I compress the .wav files using audicity? Or using windows movie maker for that matter? Edited for speeling Visit the tribe @ http://islandsim.com
December 25, 200916 yr Toktok,Well WMMaker isn't/can't/won't do it. But Audaucity will. That's what it's for. A 1.5 mb wav can be compressed to mp3 format using Audaucity and it will result in a 500 Kb (yes, Kb) file. That reduction (compression) to 1/4 of orig size. Too cool. Here's how.Get Audaucity open. Cick File then scroll to 'Inport' then move to side panel that opens and click 'Audio'. Then browse to where you have your wav file. Click on file then click 'Open'. You will be back in Audaucity. Here you can rename, and pick folder to save to. But, but, cigerette butt, you need to have the Lame mp3 dll installed. Here's how.Google 'Lame'. Go get Lame for Windows (get the exe, it's a simple tool), dbl click exe and it will install to 'Program File\Lame' where you can later browse to after you try to save wav as mp3 from Audaucity. Simple browse from Audaucity to that *.dll will 'install' it (browse to and click on *.dll, then click 'ok' and Audaucity will grab it and will use it and save your mp3. Be sure to pick what name and what folder you want Audaucity to save to before you click 'save'. Hope this helps.Chuck BNapamulePS: It's none of my business, but why use wav in video? There are tons of mp3 (free) to inport into WMMaker to add music to videos. Or are you using wav to make 'sound effects' for video? (Hum, I might just try that. Explosions? jet sound? birds? screeching tires? (Well, that's enough questions-hehe). Cheers.
December 26, 200916 yr I forgot about 'Lame', I use that too and for compressing files it's easier than Audacity.
December 26, 200916 yr Author Commercial Member Much appreciate the helpful insight Napamule and Jay. I'm on the road right now and should be back home next Tuesday. Will give it a go.Toktok Edited for speeling Visit the tribe @ http://islandsim.com
December 26, 200916 yr Have a safe trip. They provide the Lame dll just for Audaucity and is named 'Lame_v3.98.2_for_Audaucity_on_Windows.exe'. No need to download the whole enchillada. I run exe (dbl click it) right from download folder. Note folder location where it installs dll. Then browse to point Audaucity to it. Done. Easy money.Chuck BNapamule
