January 28, 201016 yr Hi Jim,I haven't posted much lately. We've visited about this problem before and I've not had time to contiune with finding a solution. I am running FSX in Vista 32, ASX on another machine with Vista 64 using Simconnect. I have FSUIPC (payware version). This problem only occurs at KDFW, the default location for my FSX startup. The surface winds at departure are "as advertised", but as I climb into the Flight Levels, the winds aloft start to diminish and eventually will be zero. This will last for about 100 miles in any direction and then the winds will start correcting. The correct winds aloft are showing in ASX. The cure is for me to go into FSX Weather and check "Stations that you have not set (retains individual station settings). Immediately the winds aloft return. As I have mentioned earlier, this problem only occurs on departures from KDFW; the arrival winds are ok. I suspect the problem may be related to my default setup in Weather of "Clear Skies (clears all weather)."Bill I Earned My Spurs in Vietnam
January 28, 201016 yr Hi Bill,With ASX running the weather theme in FSX should automatically be set to User Defined. You don't change anything on that page or in FSX. The reason you don't get any weather is because you chose Clear Skies and then it takes time for ASX to re-inject it's data. With ASX running, start FSX and see if User Defined is the weather theme.Do not start FSX before ASX.

By making the change outlined above, the winds aloft will update immediately. Would it be better to make a change to my initial set-up or just live with it and continue to do the manual update? As we know it's not perfect, but still does a nice job. :( Hopefully your next rendition will work better with PMDG. Since ASX works well with PMDG, I'm not going to change for a while. :( Bill I Earned My Spurs in Vietnam
January 29, 201016 yr Hi,Let me also say that the area around KDFW is pretty intensive area for airports and data. I don't think you are giving ASX the proper time to load all its data, but I could be wrong. 5-6 minutes is not too long to wait.If User Defined is the theme when ASX and FSX run, where does this idea of the Clear Skies theme come into play?I am also not sure what you mean by the manual update? If you mean going to the FSX Weather screen, then no, don't do that either.

If you mean going to the FSX Weather screen, then no, don't do that either.Jim,Without starting ASX my default location will be KDFW, the weather will be that weather that is associated with the "Clear skies" associated with the Weather Themes on the Weather Options page. The winds would be calm from 0 to 99999, temp 59, alt. 2992., and clouds 1/8. The "User-defined weather" option is selected. Once ASX loads the KDFW weather appears as per ASX. If I look at the weather map (under Customize), the current KDFW weather will show, but the weather stations around it will show default weather (calm/clear/2992). This may be the reason that I am losing the winds aloft as I fly away from KDFW, but can activate them by going inot Customize, "Apply weathe settings to: Stations that you have not set ".As always any suggestions on the set up would be appreciated. Again this only happens at KDFW.Bill I Earned My Spurs in Vietnam
January 29, 201016 yr Hi,Always start ASX before FSX is the first suggestion that comes to mind.Starting the other way, may require some manual refreshes of the ASX weather.
January 30, 201016 yr Author Hi,Always start ASX before FSX is the first suggestion that comes to mind.Starting the other way, may require some manual refreshes of the ASX weather.Jim,I always do. ASX and FSUIPC do about all they can to deal with a less than perfect FSX weather engine. I appreciate your efforts and there aer some things we just have to live with. :( Fly safe,Bill I Earned My Spurs in Vietnam
