Multi Views- AGP vs PCI

Featured Replies

For years, I've been running triple monitors & views with 2 monitors on the AGP video card and a 3rd mon on a same type PCI card. Works very smoothly even with my 6 year old system.Sadly, space limitations may eventually require that I revert to only dual monitors. For idle curiosity, I've been experimenting with two monitor performance using- A: two monitors on the AGP card B: one monitor each on the AGP and PCI cards.(Identical screen views for each test.)The result is that B: one monitor on each card, shows a distinct frame rate gain versus both monitors on the AGP card. The frame rate gain seems to range from about 10-33%- depending on what is being displayed. -----------For triple monitors, this raises the possibility of performance gain by adding a 2nd PCI card so that each mon has its own GPU- rather than two mons connected to the AGP card. (I see that TigerDirect/Can. still offers my old GeForce FX5200 in a PCI version for about 50 bucks! The existing AGP is also FX5200.)Anyone out there who can confirm this performance tactic of one GPU- one monitor rather than 2 monitors on one GPU?Alex Reid

Sure, the more MRTs you have, the more GPUs with discrete addressing space and rasterization resources you need. Stands to reason 2 cards > 1 for 2+ monitors.
