Simulating a NAT crossing with RC

Featured Replies

I am trying to simulate a NAT crossing as close as I possibly can within the limits of the software I now have and the limitations of RC. Essentially, I look up the daily NAT tracks and code them into the FMC of my Level-D 767 (.rte format) via SimRoutes. I then similarly code the flight plan for FSX (.pln format). Hence my FMC programmed course should - in theory - be identical to the .pln flight plan RC has "on file". So far, so good - but I mention that in case anyone wishes to critique me so far.My real question - can I file two flight plans - the first one from the departure airport to the defined entry fix of the NAT, and the second from the defined exit fix of the NAT to the destination? I would then have ATC close out my flight plan as I enter non-radar airspace, simulate HF/ACARS position reports, then pick up the second clearance as I approach the fix near the other side of the Atlantic. Any thoughts?I was also wondering if there was a way to set upi the clearance with a specific altitude "step" to be given by ATC at a predeterimined location? Thanks,LeePS - ANY ideas on NAT sims welcome...

RC4 will only process one complete plan departure airport to destination airport. You can not load a new plan into RC4 in flight except for a saved inflight spot from which to continue to destination. Be aware that loading a saved flight must use aircraft that uses standard FS control interface like the defaults. If your aircraft has standard control interfaces like the default you can use the co-pilot to fly your aircraft you can give the comms and aircraft to the co-pilot (referred to as Otto), set RC to pause at a distance from destination, take a break, and when you return everything will be paused ready for you to continue. As long as your plan places the NATS waypoints in the plan (FS9 or FSX) with coordinates, why not let RC control the crossing. Give the comms and control to Otto and imagine what you want.Filing in flight from present position is on the request list for V5 and is highly probable.See also this thread:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=274927

Thanks - great answer, well detailed - very helpful.

That's huge!

Actually - is it possible to set this up with the AP (Otto) responding to ATC instructions (eg. altitude changes, etc)? I'm flying the Level-D 767. When you said "why not let RC control the crossing. Give the comms and control to Otto and imagine what you want" - it makes me think there is a capability in RC I missed...
