I never tried Ultimate Defrag, or O & O.However the freeware Auslogics defragged my HDD in 1 hour 7 minutes (105 GB). Compared to the XP standard from MS which a year ago took over 5 hoursAuslogics claims to be fast, I believe it. No bells or whistles, just speed.http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/

Hmm, right after running Auslogics, well MS disc defrag 'analyize' applet still recommended defragging!Apparently Auslogics pieces together all the broken up files, but doesn't pack them in tighter spaces which is why MS applet would still recommend defragging. Still very useful given it's world class speed, in my opinion. Being too lazy to run a real utility, this half a**ed program is good enough for my needs.

O&O has been purported to be the best by many different sources. As a user of O&O, I find it very simple to run, with job scheduling and so on. I found it a good investment and a marked improvement on the built in MS defrag...However, it costs money...For those who have heard of or use CCleaner, there is also Defraggler, a freeware disk defragger... I have used this a couple of times on a separate laptop, with good results...Speed is not the only thing, the end result is just as important, if not more so...Andrew
