Video corruption solved

Featured Replies

I was having an issue with video corruption that would occur if I alt-tabbed to the desktop after flying any length of time. Also when I come to the end of a flight where I am using FSPassengersX, the End of Flight Report would pop up, then when I would close that dialogue, video corruption would cause me to have to ctrl-Break to exit out of FSX outright. I found the cause it this! It was that I had STOPPED the cmd window that would open with FPSLimiter.exe after loading a flight. If I don't touch that, I don't seem to have corruption, even with a 0 Bufferpools setting. Maybe it's too early to confirm this and it seems like it could be antithetical since I'm guessing FPSLimiter is still running. Haven't checked that yet. But for the last 3 flights, no problem any longer. I can stop and start any time and no video corruption. Noel

Actually this is very funny that you mention this, because I was thinking just now about the influence of FPSlimiter. Over the past week I have been experiencing with locking my framerate or leaving it at unlimited; I have always preferred unlimited because locking decreases my frames by about 10. Last week I started using FPSLimiter again to mitigate frame rate surges and since that time I started to experience texture corruption again. However, because I was still confronted with varying framerates (like drops from 30 tot 6 for a very short period) I tested a bit with locking my framerate today by leaving it at 25. This in combination with bufferpools at 0 did not only lead to a smooth flight with very few artifacts, but I have yet to experience a black screen from texture corruption. So although your solution does not exactly apply to my situation because I don't use it anymore, for me it seems that leaving out FPSLimiter altogether eliminates texture corruption.. However I think that some more testing will be needed to be absolutely sure :)

If I run FSX in full screen mode and Alt-Tab I get problems, but only if I don't have another appliction running. It could be a Windows Command Window, Windows Explorer or an OpenOffice program. Doesn't matter what program. You could try to start Windows Explorer before starting FSX direct and then press Alt-Tab. Should work the same way as with the Command window running.Normally I press Alt+Enter to toggle FSX to windowed mode before I access Windows Desktop or other programs. When I return to FSX I once again press Alt+Enter to return to full screen mode.Edited: If you Alt+Tab in FSX full screen mode and have no other application running and click the FSX icon on the taskbar and nothing happens, you could press Alt+Enter which would enable you to continue the flight.
