April 1, 201115 yr SkyVector is the ticket here. Create a flight plan, then just create the same in FSX, it's quik. Also dont forget that if you click on "link" it will give you a link to a new page with your flight plan drawn out so you can bookmark the fineshed plan drawn out. I would not suggest using a moving map, to me it's cheating. I don't use a gps for the same reason as it takes aerial navigation out of the equation. GA flying of course. It's funner to fly like a real pilot would. Having to look at a static chart, inflight, using VOR's and DME, as well as looking out the window to figure out where you are. Also fly VFR so center won't tell you where to go. It is quite satisfying to find the airport under no visability, VFR (illegal) with a VOR off the field.

Flying VFR, real weather, with sectional charts is very challenging and rewarding. I have the entire continental US in photoscenery and in sectionals. I prepare my flights carefully with skyvector, selecting landmarks every 20NM or so. Then I try to find them at the flying time that I have calculated with my E6b taking the wind correction angle into account, my sectionals on my lap, watching the scenery. There are areas in the US where it is easy to get lost!!! No GPS, no moving map, pilotage and dead reckoning only. I enjoy it so much. My gallery: http://s1075.photobucket.com/albums/w430/yankeegolf/

And thanks, now I have something new to do. Havn't touched an E6B in over 13 years. SkyVector will give weather reporting stations, as well as FSX real world weather. Can I assume that they are both Jeppenson's data and will match up? I'll have to find out. This would come into play well when flying in say, Alaska, where VOR's are few and far between. When you loose VOR nav, yes you will need that E6B. And dead rekon. :(
April 1, 201115 yr Look what I found. A virtual E6B. Front and back. Mouse drag, fully funcional.http://www.pilotinsi...ols/e6b/e6b.htm now I'm going to hit up youtube bacause I don't remember how to use it.:(

April 1, 201115 yr Hi,Keep it simple grant :( http://www.csgnetwork.com/e6bcalc.htmlor even better :( http://www.skywritersoft.com/ Thank you, I did see those. I am trying to fly with no electronic aid as they require a power sourse. Trying to go back to standard old school navigation. The E6B, a chart and a pencil, is something you can rely on 100%.Electronicly it's amazing what is out there for NavAids I agree. What can be done with just an Ipad....
