  1. Is it possible to completely remove the doors on my C172? How about engine cowling? Is there a motor in there? Just want to create a C172 that is beat to hell looking. :^) .... my next question would be how to add a female passenger. Naked. No joke. I fly with a group where we have our own personal textures. Thanks.
  2. When you "stir the pot" sticky controls dont matter. Found an explination on a helo site. : In the wonderful fixed-wing world we have an equivalent, the guy who gets to stirring the ailerons and elevators trying to achieve a really smooth touchdown. There you are, floating along in ground effect with what looks like a Bruce Lee action sequence going on over there; the controls have so little 'bite' that the airplane really isn't reacting very much but yer man is so busy that he hasn't noticed that! Of course if you point this out to him he gets mortally offended that you are criticising some technique he was taught by some goofy instructor way back when. Sigh...
  3. For lube. Stainless shaft on a plastic bushing I use a dry graphite spray lube. Real aircraft general purpose lube that wont build up dirt and dust. .Don't use a petrolium lube on anything plastic. For the pro flight yoke I also did a mod. No rubber band. I remove one of two elevator springs ( the lower one is not screwed down) and removed the roll sprring and use the elevator spring instead. It went above the shaft, closing that clamshel thing that gives the roll centering. Loose enough that there is no detent but still centers.. Yeah, smashing her down on the runway a few times sent me looking for a screwdriver. Ready for another lube so I'll take pics. A rubber band won't last. Have you guys heard of the term "stiring the pot"? Helo lingo but works with aircraft as well. Hard to discribe but it works. Exagirated flight inputs that actualy will stabilize a flair.
  4. Yes, my brother flies a C210 and a Piper 180. I dont ask for departure or landing, he's not an instructor but do get to fly right seat quite often. When he transtitions from approach to a flair. He's pulling the yoke into his lap. And in a C210, it's heavy. Super heavy. Talking at least 10 punds to pull back. One handed of course, other on the throttle. With the old Saitek yoke. Lack of fine inputs on the elevator, I have just gone to most aircraft .cfg's and increased pitch stability to get rid of the rocking chair affect when trying to flair on landing. A stock FSX approach and flair is WAY harder than the real thing. Setting the nose and keeping it there is realy not that hard. I have also had to tweek my aircraft .air files to emloy a dutch roll. A yaw induced roll. In order to make crosswind landings more realistic. In a crosswind now. I have to hold lots of windward alearons with opposite rudder. Cross controlling for a crosswing made real. It's a good reflex builder as cross controlling needs to be learned as it is totaly unatural. Physicaly speaking.
  5. Boy, I looked at the price of those PFC's.... Ok, Ive found enough info that tells me the Cessna yoke is a fail. Now I'm back to building my own using my old pro flight yolk. Pitch and roll is easy. Ball baring pillow blocks for roll axis that sit on two quality ball baring drawer sliders. Springing and limiting is easy but what I can't figure out is how to attach the two pots. It's about finding plastic gears and a geat track (elevator). I saw a vidoe that some gut was salvaging printers for gears. As for the PFC's. I could find anything about elevator travel. I can tell you in a C210 Centurian. Flairing on landing means your pulling that yoke way into your belly. From a trimmed approach, I'd say you have to pull like 10 inches of elevator to flair.
  6. Indeed questions to be answered. 1- Stickyness. 2- Center detent on roll and pitch. 3- How much total elevator travel? ( older yoke has 6 inches total elevator. Fail!) ps. with my older Sayek yolk I did read to NOT install the drivers. Still never had. Still no issues with linear (roll) movement.
  7. This is the way I was instructed to do it in a C152. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUr0tMfIAuY
  8. My purpose was to make a small single GA aircraft land realisticly. Windward main first with cross controll. I never fly big jets as I could never pilot one for real. I agree though. I just couldn't see a big jet land on one main. I think the kicking the rudder just before touchdown is to have the plane land on both mains.
  9. Thank you. That did the trick. Increased the Cl_drI and a few others. Now have to hold down the windward wing in a crosswind landing. Windward main as well. Also in flight rudder will induce a roll. Thank you very much. So then I do have a tweeked L-19 Birdog air and cfg if anyone wants.
  10. Thanks for that. Under 1101/ ---Yaw--+=Nose Left-- I'm a bit confused as to which peramiter to select here. Looks like those selections offer comparisons to other aircraft which is handy. Just cant figure which one. Thank you very much.Grant06/Paul
  11. Thanks for that detail. Sounds like this is something I can not change. Used notepad to open that air file and it looks something I can't mess around with. Or can I? Going to Google for an airfile editor and see what I can find. I'm wanting to use a "Bird dog" that flies very realistic exept for that, uh, what you said. Thanks Paul. Grant06/Paul (also).
  12. Wondering why it is that some planes react to yaw induced roll and some do not. If I step on a rudder pedal I should start rolling that direction. Also in a crosswind landing, say a right crosswind, left rudder would require right aileron. Can't see anything in the aircraft cfg that would seem to be applied to this affect. Anyone know about this?
  13. Anyone know the best way to find and fly with GA pilots? All I can find is virtual airlines. Spend about 9 hours today getting VatSim server to work with this so called FSInn stuff. Got it to work just to find that it is just jet pilots flying solo with ATC. Hell, I can do that on the crappy GameSpy server. What a wasted day just to find other pilots to fly with. To me, FSX is not a game but a tool. I find it a shame that you can fly in a shared cockpit and all you find is solo pilots in 747's. Any flying clubs that fly GA? Or am I just stuck with advertizing in the GameSpy server just to constantly boot kids flying 747's? Where are the real pilots using FSX? They have to be somewhere. The learning potential is huge. Pretty dissapointed with that VatSim to say the least. It's just a glorified Gamespy with less, alot less. I don't need any stinking radar. Cheese and rice!!
  14. I have no ploblem logging on the Gamespy in FSX. Just joined Vatsim as well as squakbox. Another 3 hours later and no go with that. Is this just another FSHost circle jerk? So much work just to find online flyers. Am I just wasting my time? Is the FSX flying community realy that dead. I have never had any of these multiplayer server programs do anything but to force me to just walk away from my computer. Blows me away how dificult this is. Just to find real flyers.Has anyone actualy connected to any of these servers and found flyers there? Or scheduled flights. Anything? I would gladly pay to have access to an online flight community.Frustrated to say the least.
  15. Will do 07. I just mentioned doing it high and low in order to correct being at the wrong altitude. Will have to throw in some winds too. I wish FSX miltiplayers had more interest in propped GA. I allways log in on sunday afternoon. Grant06 is my log in. I think this shared aircraft option has potential. I'm always game for GA flying, VFR, IFR, I use Sky Vector for charts and plates. I still don't have a place to find flights. Never had any luck with FSHost. Have SP1 Thanks again.
  16. Much appreciate this info. This CFII that mentioned this to me was old school, yes. He sai he always would teach the powered approach first, but made his students perform non powered, of course for forced landings. That way it's more natural when you are under the stress of an engine failure. So basicaly start the descent abeam the 1000 ft mark (landing position). Distance on turns, and having more flaps available if needed. Will be trying this at 1000ft agl first, then like 1200 and as low as 800. No neglecting the powered approach as will still need to be comfy with the 3% slope for ILS approaches. Thanks. Paul
  17. After 13 years of regular powered approaches, throttle for altitude/ pitch for airspeed, I came accross the subject off non-powered approaches being safer as you don't have to worry about a power failure when on an approach. Currently been practicing this by just coming in fast, using gear, flaps and sideslipping to controll my desceleration. Is there more to this, or is it simply all about placing the runway in your windscreen in the right spot when you power down/idle.How would a CFI tech this method of approach.TY.Paul. ...looking for something to work on today.
  18. Much appreciated, I do see Flight Sim X, as well as Flight Sim X SDK SP1A. Leads to the question as to the SP2 then. Is it something I need being a GA sim pilot? TY.
  19. You can just select Auto Rudder. But if you ever plan on flying for real, I would suggest getting rudder pedals. For me, getting a set of rudder pedals was an absolute must.
  20. It's been so long since I have installed FSX so my question. How do I find out if and what service pack I might have. I see alot regarding FSX acceleration. is acceleration something I need as I realy dont have interest in air racing, jets or carrier landing. Am only interested in realism and game performance. With this site being so active, I figured I'd just ask. I was just looking at this FSX.cfg stuff on Avsim and quit because I can't even find this .cfg on my PC. Thanks.
  21. Have had my yoke for a few weeks now. FSX accepted the controler just fine. I read somewhere that you didn't need the CD install. Is there anything usefull on the install disc? It's working fine ( after my spring labotomy) but wonder if it will work better with the install disc. Thank you.
  22. Thank you, I did see those. I am trying to fly with no electronic aid as they require a power sourse. Trying to go back to standard old school navigation. The E6B, a chart and a pencil, is something you can rely on 100%.Electronicly it's amazing what is out there for NavAids I agree. What can be done with just an Ipad....
  23. Look what I found. A virtual E6B. Front and back. Mouse drag, fully funcional.http://www.pilotinsi...ols/e6b/e6b.htm now I'm going to hit up youtube bacause I don't remember how to use it.:(
