Using a Mouse as a yoke

Featured Replies

I am fairly new to Flight sims and was looking at the PMDG 747-400X for FSX and was wondering if it would only be worth buying if I had a yoke and pedals or if a mouse would be good enough?

Get the yoke, pedals, and a throttle quadrant: You will not be sorry! (The PMDG B-744 deserves no less!(Cherers,- jahman.

OK, but Im not going to be able to get all at once because their a bit expensive for me, so would it be better to use the mouse as the yoke and get the pedals first? Thanks.

Personally I don't think it's possible to fly large inertia-ridden aircraft with the mouse, but that might be a limitation of mine.See how you can handle the stock FSX B-747 with the mouse for a yoke. Then if you are comfortable with the mouse, go for the pedals or else you will not be able to handle a cross-wind landing if your life depended on it. (Also important for taxiing, braking and especially differential braking.Cheers,- jahman.

OK thanks for the advice

You could use Auto Rudder and use keyboard and differential throttle for turning on taxi ways. Nothing beats the feel of a yoke. The Saitek ships with a throttle and you can add another later.

Get a fairly good joystick for starters. Then get pedals at some point. A throttle quadrant afterwards, and when you have both, you are ready for the yoke, if you wish.
