I was just flying around JFK without a flight plan, and I requested vfr clearance to land. The weather was heavy rain with terrible visibility. My clearance request by the tower was denied saying "Negative, airport is IFR only request denied". I flew in on instruments anyway, and the runway was obsured until a few hundred feet! The ATC knew there was no way I could visually find the runway. :D It is little things like this that make this sim so much fun. I just thought I would share, I was rather shocked that the ATC was paying attention to the weather other than wind direction for vectoring flights.
