Creating 32 bit DDS bitmaps for FSX

Featured Replies

Tell me if I'm doing this correctly, for just about any texture that I want to apply like in a 2D cockpit.I had a 24 bit image which was 417 x178 and I apply that texture to a planar in the Gmax model and sized it around until it looked right. If I understand correctly, I have to have a 32 bit DDS file (Fuel.dds), placed in the Texture folder for FSX, that has the same "name", as the BMP file (Fuel.bmp) which I used in Gmax. Some questions:I understand the DDS has to be square (i.e. 512 x 512) and include an Alpha channel (which I created), but where should the image be on the new resized canvas size of 512 x 512 ?The image below is where I'm at right now, not knowing what are the correct steps ?ddsy.jpg

Put it anywhere you want! Pack that bitmap with as many things as you can cram onto it!Select the polygonAdd a UVWMapMake the UVW Map "square"Add a UVW Unwrap modifierOpen the UVW Editor, select the vertices, then move/rescale as needed to select the portion of the bitmap you want.
