Turning DWC off inflight?

Featured Replies

I have a quick question,Is it possible to turn DWC off inflight? I have two issues right now that I'm trying to remedy. The first one is every flight goes great until arrival. That's when I get assigned runways with tailwinds. I am using DWC and I am pressing the Refresh AI button. I am also loading my flight plan and have force destination wx checked. Still getting assigned the wrong runways. Today landing at KORD it was 180 degrees off of where it should be and I had AI landing on the opposite end... This is annoying. The second one is if I fly with DWC off I get the proper runway assignment but I get wonky temperatures aloft. The wind is right but the temperature is wrong. With DWC off in the PMDG 747 at FL390 at .860 mach the TAT is always -19. Doesn't matter where in the world I am or what the temperature outside is. It doesn't matter how heavy the plane is. Doesn't matter how much fuel I have. It's always -19.As soon as I turn DWC on, the TAT varies with the outside air temp. The way it should. I did a test today where at FL420 the temperature outside was -72. TAT with DWC on was in the -35 to -40 range. If I did the same flight with the same weather, outside air temp at -72, with DWC off my TAT was -19.Wind always seems to be proper whether DWC is on or off.So it seems either get proper temperatures and performance or get runway assignments.A solution I could think of is use DWC from takeoff until TOD or somewhere near TOD. This would give me proper temperatures for nearly the whole flight. Then if I could uncheck DWC and if the weather would refresh itself, FSX should realize which direction the wind is blowing on the ground (and FSX ATIS would work) and I'd get assigned the proper runway.I know you can turn DWC on inflight but it seems I always have to shut FSX down to turn it off. I know I could save the flight and panel state and all that but it'd be much easier to just uncheck the box. (Or maybe have the devs look into this peculiar problem for the SP :( )Or perhaps I just have some setting wrong? Thanks for any insight anyone may have!Jeff Calder

Hi Jeff,You can sure try and don't shut down FSX. Saving your settings in ASE will cause a weather refresh which is good enough to supply FSX with the non-DWC weather data. I am not sure how this would all affect your landing situations.
