  1. When's it going to be ready? What's the release date? Can I be a beta tester? What's the status? Why aren't you providing updates? It's been a day, haven't you done anything? Why so secretive, this isn't bomb development! Is it ready yet? Is there a Xplane version? Will it work with FS9? Does it have 2D panels? Does it have weather radar? Is it in beta yet? What will it cost? Is the p3d version more money? If I buy the FSX version can I use it in P3D?
  2. Why can't you link to pictures on airliners.net? I must be out of the loop, that seems like an odd thing to get a tongue lashing for.
  3. A couple of months ago my wife and I were sitting in row 1 of an Air Canada Rouge A320 leaving YYZ for FLL. I was craning my neck staring through the open cockpit door while yammering to my wife about all the buttons and switches and stuff I could see on the displays and the flight attendant walked by, she stuck her head in and said something, then the captain turned around and said "You can come up and take a look around if you want". I got to stand in there for 5-10 minutes checking everything out. The pilots were awesome. I don't understand the people going on about security and how a stranger visiting a cockpit is unprofessional. In flight is a bit of a different story, but even then, planes flew for decades with people visiting flight decks and there were no issues, but the risk is greater so fine, keep people out in flight, but at the gate I don't see the issue. Pretty hard to hijack a parked airplane at an airport full of security. But to each their own, I'm glad pilots let people check out flight decks, after I got invited in I will ask to visit every time I'm on a different type of airplane. I've seen the A320 now, so I won't ask again, hopefully me not going in gives another aviation fan a chance to check it out.
  4. I was there in February this year, took a taxi from the cruise port to Maho beach. It was weird standing in the spot where so many pictures of the beautiful 747 have been taken of the years. We only saw a few small planes land, the first scheduled airliner was due at 11:40 and it got delayed. We were hungry and the Sunset bar/grill was packed so we left and went to the Hard Rock café in Philipsburg instead. As our cruise ship was leaving we saw an Air France A340 on final. It was really cool. Very nice people on that island too.
  5. Wow, it took almost 12 hours for a snarky sarcasm filled comment to show up... Things are improving around here from when I used to frequent this forum 3 or so years ago, back then the sarcasm or complaints started within about an hour. Gotta love how some people make it seem like you ruined their lives by starting a new thread to ask a question because "it's been asked before"... I also get a kick out of the fact Dan's very helpful reply which solved my problem likely took less time and took up less space than the sarcastic explanation of how to use search on this forum. Also for the record I did search for "Runways and SID/STAR not displaying on FMS" and "RWY N/A on FMS" which yielded no results. I apologized already for asking a question again that had likely been answered and I still got guff for it. There's so many unfriendly people out there.
  6. That worked! Thank you very much, sorry for asking a question that's likely been answered a million times, searching a massive forum like this is often more difficult than just asking again. I appreciate it!
  7. I bought the navigraph updates this morning, updated to 1604 and now some airports have no information in them anymore. I'm confused, I had a really old AIRAC installation file, 1213 I think so I installed that out of curiosity and then everything came back. So I re-installed 1604 and I still get this error on my FMS. Anyone know what's going on? Thanks. No add-on software other than the PMDG 737 and 777 installed either, default airports, but I don't think that should matter in regards to AIRAC data anyway, should it? https://www.dropbox.com/s/ew6k8tlibi2ygkt/Capture.JPG?dl=0 Sorry for the link to the picture. I don't know why the heck I can't post it normally, I don't know why I can't just upload it to this site and I've been struggling for like half an hour to even get that link to work.
  8. What is equally amazing is why would you care how other people use their simulators. I'm glad you think you're a 777 real life captain and you do everything by the book. I'm sure the empty room behind you cares. If I want to do barrel rolls with my PMDG 777, what's it to you?
  9. I spent almost 5 hours reading the tutorial yesterday afternoon before going on the short little flight that I did and spent about an hour just perusing the cockpit after firing it up for the first time.
  10. I bought and installed the 777 today. So far I love it. It's more like my beloved 747, feel right at home in the seat on this thing! I flew one flight from KPAE to KSFO just to test it out and the approach was nice and smooth. Tomorrow I might try going into somewhere with payware scenery. I have FSDT's PHNL, maybe I'll give that a shot.
  11. Well, to be fair it's not entirely realistic to have the pilot sleeping with no one in the cockpit either. If you don't tell anyone, nobody will know whether or not the amber light is on
  12. I just started using it. I only made three changes to my .cfg file Highmemfix=1 in the "graphics" section (not sure if this is needed, but it wasn't present anywhere else in the file so I added it) Wideviewaspect = true Affinitymask=14 That's it. And FSX works better than the boxed version ever did.
  13. My machine is old too. i7 920 at 3.8 ghz, GTX 480. NGX works just fine.
  14. I'm sure this has been asked before but I'll ask anyway. How's the 777 performance in comparison to the NGX? Basically if the NGX works well, could one assume the 777 would work well also? Thanks.
  15. The heading was wrong to the track of the airplane. But it's been working fine for awhile now, I don't think it's a problem anymore. I flew three short flights today and they all worked fine. I'm thrilled with FSX: SE.
  16. I bought REX 4 with soft clouds 3 days ago. Figures it goes on sale a couple of days later. Kinda angry right now...
  17. Since I started this thread I've been really enjoying FSX:SE and the NGX. Actually bought REX 4 today to make things look a little more realistic but I can fly into KORD with Ultimate Traffic II and Active Sky Next running and have no problem keeping thing running nice and smooth. I don't know what the FPS are since I don't like watching the meter, as long as the experience is smooth, I'm happy. Now I just have to find time to fly! Simbrief is exactly what I was looking for in flight planning, I'm really enjoying this.
  18. I'll run the flight1 registry tool. I know how to use regedit, just not a big fan of manually changing stuff in the registry. I'm not doubting P3D is good. I just have an old computer and I don't want to re-purchase anything and we all likely have different goals of what we're trying to accomplish with flight simulation. As long as the plane is doing what it's supposed to and it looks half decent, I'm pretty happy. I just flew CYWG - KMSP and everything worked fine. Whatever was ailing my installation seems to have cured itself.
  19. I read the Flight1 registry tool doesn't work with the Steam Edition of FSX because Dovetail changed some registry entries. Are you using the MD-11X in SE? I own that as well but was told it wasn't compatible and PMDG is not supporting it, etc. As for the comment to buy P3D... No. I think I'll be stretching FSX as long as I can and see what comes of the Dovetail Flight Simulator in the future. I don't see the point of going to P3D if FSX is working well.
  20. I tried a couple of flights today. First one I tried without Active Sky like the poster above me suggested and it didn't dog-track, but it was a much shorter flight. Just KSEA to CYVR. So I tried a longer one, KSEA to KLAX and it started to dog-track again and I ended the flight. I had an old AIRAC cycle from back when I quit simming, I believe it's 1213 so I rebooted my computer and installed that. I tried KSEA to KLAX again and it held the line, (no Active Sky) but I got a fire call (volunteer firefighter) so I ended the flight and went to that. (It was a false alarm, no big deal) So encouraged from the previous flight holding the line I started a much longer flight, KMSP to KLAX and it worked fine. Everything stayed where it should and worked properly. I did use Active Sky Next on this flight as well since it was working fine on the KSEA -> KLAX flight so I wanted to try it with the weather. I'll do a few more over the next few days and see if it continues to behave. Then I'll be able to make an easier decision on purchasing new AIRAC cycles and possibly the 777, which opens up a whole bunch of new learning. I am still not very good with the NGX though, I always enjoyed the 747 but I'm not going to bother trying to get the old 747-400X working win FSX Steam when that gorgeous new one is almost ready. Even though I'm running a 6 year old i7 920 and a GTX 480 I've never had FSX work as smooth as it has since I got the Steam edition. Even on approach to KORD on my crooked flight everything seemed very smooth. I'm sure the 777 or new 747 will be a reality check for this old box though and I'll have to go buy some nicer hardware.
  21. I'll try again tonight and if it's acting goofy again I'll take some screenshots. I'll do shorter flights too, KPAE to KSEA is pretty short, right? Haha.
  22. Hey all, It's been a long time! I haven't really been into FSX for quite some time, since early 2013 due to my frustrations with FSX crashing all the time and spending more time messing with .cfg files than actually flying. Decided to give it a go again, since I really did miss flying. Around Christmas I bought FSX:SE for $5, figured couldn't go wrong with that. So now I've installed it, got Active Sky Next going and installed the NGX. Helpful people on AVSIM pointed me towards Simbrief which is a great website, since I like to fly planes, not plan routes and loads and stuff, I want to be told what I'm doing and go do it. Anyway, so I'm all excited for a simulator that doesn't always crash on me and last night I fly from KMSP to KLAX. Along the way I noticed that the plane was "dog-tracking" or flying crooked alongside the purple line on the ND. Kind of like this |\ So naturally when I got to KLAX, the airplane wanted to land beside the runway. Because I was annoyed I landed on the grass and during roll-out it went directly to the middle of the runway. This is confusing. The route line was exactly where it should be, the indicators on the display showed the localizer and glideslope exactly where they should be, but the airplane wasn't following them. I apologize in advance if this has been discussed to death somewhere. I have spent some time searching and see the odd reference to magnetic headings and AIRAC cycles but those always seemed to have the airplane flying parallel to the proposed flight path. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. I want to buy the 777 and REALLY looking forward to the 747 since that's my favorite plane, but if I can't get it to fly straight I don't want to spend any money. Thanks, Jeff Calder
  23. I've used VATSIM before, I do like to use it from time to time but would still like an option for when I fly at night and don't want to be talking or when I do a long haul where I'm not paying the most attention, sometimes sitting off to the side watching TV.. (during cruise...) Haha. So far my computer seems to be performing better with FSX: SE than it ever did with FSX Deluxe + SP1 & 2. Was trying to figure out simbrief last night and flying the NGX I noticed on the ND that the plane was flying crooked alongside the purple line, like it was dog-tracking. Kind of like |\ with the airplane being the backslash. Then when I got to my destination and captured the localizer and glideslope, I came in crooked, the same way to the runway and was going to end up touching down on the grass and taxi-ways. This was in auto-land mode too (gonna take awhile to get the hang of all this again and it makes it difficult when nothing is lining up.) Maybe this is a unique problem but I doubt it. The airports used were just default ones KMSP to KLAX was the route. Brought back my frustrations from years ago. Fly 1100 nm only to have the sim screw up and not line anything up right and mess up my landing. By this point it was after midnight so I just ended the flight and went to bed. I searched around a bit last night and saw some people having issues with the plane following parallel to their flight plans on the ND, but never crooked like what I was experiencing. It was very weird. Wondering if it has something to do with AIRAC data and outdated compass/magnetic fields or something in FSX? Still doesn't really explain why the plane was sideways to the flight path. Oh well, I'll experiment some more when I get some time.
  24. I got it working! I re-downloaded the file from the flight 1 site and reinstalled and it worked. Not sure why it had problems but it doesn't anymore so I'm happy. Thanks for all the help!
  25. ^^ That's an extremely helpful post, thank you very much. Almost all those folders and files are there but it seems like there's some stuff missing, for example in my steamapps, common, fsx, flight one software, ultimate traffic 2 folder there's only the following: Images folder system.data.sqlite.dll utlimatetraffic2.exe UT2Services.exe UT2services.exe.config utii.dll The entries are there in the exe.dll file. I'll try to figure out where the apparent missing files are. Thank you!
