Strange things happening with ASE and ASA

Featured Replies

First of all, yesterday, ASE decided for the first time that it could not locate my FS2004 installation and invited me to browse to locate it which I did. It still wasn't happy, said it couldn't continue and closed down. So, I ran the Flight 1 registry fixer tool then started ASE again but same result. So, I uninstalled and re-installed ASE and although it was still saying it couldn't locate FS2004, when I browsed to the location it then ran. Then I downloaded the update for ASE but when I tried to install it I was told that as I don't have ASA installed, it couldn't install the update. As I have the full version of ASE I didn't bother to install ASA when I had to re-install Windows and all software a few weeks ago. So I went to install ASA but the readme said that it was an upgrade and I'd have to install ASv6-5. That required me to install ASv6 and so eventually I was able to install ASA.When I tried to run the ASE update again, it couldn't find the ASA install and refused. Interestingly, when I ran ASA it too couldn't locate my FS2004 installation but when I browsed to the folder it ran ok. The latest situation is that ASE won't run at all. Clicking on the icon or directly on the exe file does not work, nor does "run as admin". I'll try a re-boot and see what happens. Now all this failure to locate FS2004 is very strange because every other add-on that I have that needs to find FS2004 can do so, no problem. GEPro can install a different texture set; with Ultimate Terrain, I can make option changes no problem; Radar Contact knows what airport I'm at and what the AI traffic is doing, which runway is the active, etc; add-on aircraft configurators that run outside of FS such as PMDG and Flight 1 all work perfectly, and when ASE was running and I changed my plane's location ASE changed correctly. Therefore I am baffled. My setup is simple, a single PC, a single screen running Win 7 64 bit and I have the latest version of FSUIPC. If Jim or anyone else can tell me what's going on I'd be grateful. Thanks.Iain Smith

OK, the re-boot did the trick and ASE now runs, or appears to. I have also now installed SP1 for ASE.I need to do more testing but I did a short flight last evening from Bristol, UK (EGGD) to Belfast, UK (EGAA) and the report said broken cloud and some precipitation. My flight had a clear cloudless sky throughout and no rain! Made me suspect that ASE is not generating any weather. However, it still says, at each start, that it cannot find my FS2004 location. (ASA also says same thing). Both seem to accept it when I browse to it. For the reasons stated in my first post, I believe this to be an AS problem. Has no one ever had this happen? Surely someone knows what could be wrong?Iain Smith

Hi Jim,Thanks for your response. I've fixed it. I found that it wasn't just ASE but FS9's own weather wasn't working and there were no weather themes showing. So, with only a hazy idea of what it might achieve, I re-named my FS9 folder "old FS9" and ran the CDs through to create a new install. This will have corrected any registry problem if there was one but, more importantly, it immediately showed, when I compared the two installations, that my weather folder was missing from my original installation. I have no idea how that could have been deleted - I certainly didn't do it. So I moved the weather file from the new install over to the original, deleted the new install folders and correctly named my original install. Result was everything working perfectly and no "can't find FS2004" messages. So, an unusual problem but at least I was able to fix it without too much hassle. I'll now go and try out ASE with SP1! Apologies for pointing the finger at you HiFi guys, by the way. :( Iain Smith
