Engine failure

Featured Replies

I seem to get regular engine failure on 182Q. I haven't quite pinpointed the problem yet, but it appears that it is often on the ground on high altitude airport or when mountain flying. I have been able to restart it sometimes...Any one has ever encountered this problem and managed to find what they were doing wrong?

Did you think about, that maybe you did anything wrong? If it happens on high altitude airports or in high altitudes, your engines is running with too rich mixture, try to lean it and you'll get more power in high altitudes...Have fun :( Phil

As per my original post, I was indeed trying to find what I was doing wrong. My first try was indeed the mixture, the concern here may have been that I was running it maybe a bit leaner than the model wanted (at peak EGT)....so I made sure I was a bit rich of peak and that did not solve the problem.I got a hint on this forum in a post for the C185 skywagon...I tried turning on the carburator heat more often and that consitantly solved the problem. It appears carburator icing can occur in conditons which would not create icing according to carb icing charts.
