Nvidia 400 series and FSX

Featured Replies

I was wondering how Fermi based new Nvidia cards GTX 470 and GTX 480 are performing in FSX. Is it worth it to go with the new 400 series or would GTX 285 or GTX 295 suffice?

Check the video card forum Sam, there's a lot of discussion in there. ******* Altuve loves his and says it can do all the UsePools=0 stuff without instability or needing to turn down the AA levels etc.

I love mine. As ******* said, it is so powerful performance is about the same, no matter with a bufferpool or not. Also, you can run really high image quality settings and fsx sliders and still get frame rates in the 20 to 30 range. I still have slight microstutters when down low above dense urban areas, but after doing some research it seems to have something to do with FSB or PCI latency that causes thread collisions with overclocked i7 processors.Following NickN's advice, I have found that a TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=90 setting combined with a bufferpool of 100000000 (100MB) seems to have eliminated these microstutters. To summarize, an i7 920/930 overclocked to 4.0Ghz+ GTX 480 is a great match.Taking it further, the system in my signature is setup to run FSX extremely well.UPDATE:Okay, this card rocks. Getting 20-25 fps constant (I have it limited to 25) and NO microstutters or stutters whatsoever. Finally, fluid and smooth flight. Here are my tweaks/ settings now:16xAA, 8xS supersampling, 16xAF, prerender limit 1, anisotropic optimization on, AA and AF set to enhance in-game setting, vsync application controlledGEX,UTX,REX, UT2 @ 75% airline/50% ga[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14[bufferPools]PoolSize=100000000[GRAPHICS]HIGHMEMFIX=1Allow_Shader_30=1ForceFullScreenVSync=1ForceWindowedVsync=1TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=90[MAIN]FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.25Water - 2.x lowscenery/autogen - very densemaxed cloud draw/densitymaxed level of detail radiusmaxed scenery sliders (except for mesh resolution set to 10m)no FSX native ai traffic (except for airport minimum, probably could run more but don't care for it)frame rate unlimited in FSX/external fps limiter 25
