May 8, 201016 yr Hi Jim,Comparing the real wx image with the one produced by ASE, I see much more (i.e.) cumulus clouds than FEW the local METAR quotes. I know it is a matter of "blending" among the adjacent wx stations, but it remains still in many cases out of a real-like wx depiction. I noticed that a significant role plays the thickness of cloud layers - if you reduce it, the wx comes closer to reality. By the way, what makes ASE select one cloud-thickness value or another ?I could, of course, choose the wx config way to adjust depiction but I think that some corrective actions should be taken by ASE developers on that interface, in order to make wx configurator more efficient, like it was in ASv6.5. The barometric pressure value remains at inches Hg in approximation, eg, instead of A2997, it shows A2900 however I try to make it keep the right value. Some other time, after "Apply weather" it switches to a value much different than the inserted by user. Another note on configurator : Despite that with default vis range value 10 the METAR vis is shown as 10 or more, with the same 10 value the visibility becomes almost poor after pressing "Apply weather".The issue with the high altitude cumulus clouds (more than 30000) was addressed with SP1 ?I always use weather influenced depiction. Looking forward to your reply.Sotiris. Sotiris Stavrakis
May 9, 201016 yr Hi,FEW clouds can be 1/8 or 2/8 of the sky. Thickness is determined by the weather conditions.A METAR vis. value of 10 is unlimited, but I am not sure what your application range of the METAR was that you were applying. All the screens in ASE are what they are and will not be changed or re-worked. Yes, the high cloud layer issue was worked on for SP1.
May 9, 201016 yr Author Hi,[FEW clouds can be 1/8 or 2/8 of the sky. Thickness is determined by the weather conditions.]Anyway, what I always see is a lot more than 2/8 and always much thicker than reality.[A METAR vis. value of 10 is unlimited, but I am not sure what your application range of the METAR was that you were applying.]Because I know it well, I take care of setting wx application range a lot more (70-100).I send to you that feedback, because I know you want to hear customer opinion. It's up to you make the product better or not.Best regards. Sotiris Stavrakis
May 10, 201016 yr Hi,Please post a shot with a single FEW cloud layer in the METAR shown on the Report screen in ASE and a shot of FS.
May 10, 201016 yr Author OK, I 've got the screenshots, but the attachment editor does not allow me to upload them, neither zipped or unzipped. Where do you want me to send them ? Sotiris Stavrakis
