Can't Unlock Old Windows7 Folder to Delete?

Featured Replies

Installed new motherboard. Had bad IDE connector and needed to put Windows7 on a different drive. That worked. Now need to delete the old Windows folder. But, it is locked. I think there is a convoluted process to change permissions but was hoping that there is a simple way. Running as administrator.

You could try booting in Safe Mode to see if it is then possible to delete the folder. Only a limited part of Windows 7 is loaded in Safe mode and that may free up the folder for deletion.

Try "Take Ownership". Very handy little reg tweak.http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-menu-in-vista/Thaellar
Well as Gomer Pyle used to say: Thank you, Thank, you, Thank you.The little program worked and saved me hours of learning once again the way to change permissions and execute the changes. I had done that one for an old copy of XP after a similar event.
