May 24, 201016 yr Hello all, as of late I seem to have MD-11 fever, while trip tracing the globe I happened to be looking at the heating and air condition page and I notice while I cruised at FL330, the temp in the lower holds was pushing 35F. My questions is whether the temperature is kept at a specific number according to what is in the hold at the time or whether its Airline specific ergo Fedex does it differently then World or UPS.Thanks, T. Dawkins.

Dawkins.Livestock needs to be kept comfortable. Liquids need to be kept above freezing. Dry goods don't care (usually). So it is chosen on a flight-by-flight basis depending on what cargo is loaded where. Paul Smith.
May 26, 201016 yr Generally, no live animals are to be carred in the center cargo. The reasoning behind this is that the center cargo compartment is not heated independently as the aft and forward cargo compartments are. It is heated through ventilation from the aft cargo compartment. Most configurations are forward cargo heat selector to lo or hi depending on what it is that you are carrying and aft selector to the mid range during most operations. Allan Burek
