May 26, 201016 yr hi. i got a new computer recently and have reinstalled fsx, vanilla tweaks and config and just a lot of the usual suspects for addons.although initially i had some great flights, like many of you i ended up looking in this forum for a solution to the 'fatal error' and ctd problem that seems to be pretty common. it started happening to me once i started getting more scenery installed and running the fancier planes, etc..i was fortunate enough to come across a test case where i can cause the sim to crash with nearly 100% certainty after just a few minutes of flight. my frustrating initial experiences with this problem were at times of 30-60 min into a flight which of course is insanely hard to test with.. and we all know a lot of times these errors are not really deterministic especially if you are using like real weather..anyway i messed around with my settings using the test case and had no luck with preventing the crash using various listed tweaks like the job scheduler, lower autogen, turning shadows off, different dll, etc. in a way this was reassuring because i could easily eliminate different variables. it seemed strangely that the one thing which prevented the crash was reducing texture max load from 4096 to 2048. i have done the test flight 2x and another longer vfr flight that crashed me 2x before and it's worked well so far. now, my video card has like 1.5gig of ram so i had just assumed texture memory wasn't an issue so i had setup full 4096 with rex when i first got everything in... it seems like maybe in this case something is amiss. it could be related to the scenery in i have in that area also... (when i reduced the load, i also re-installed rex clouds with 2048 resolution instead of 4096..)anyway if you want to try it, the test case is to setup a flight from ybbn to ymml using both orbx airports and the full orbx austraila/ozx3/holgermesh etc. the other addons are radar contact UT2 (20%), ASE, using the pmdg md-11. (note that reducing airport settings from max to a more conservative setting resulted in increased performance but did not resolve the crash)i dunno, i hope this info is useful, maybe a similar flight will crash quickly for you and you can adjust your system more rapidly!i will post more when i have time to try dialing my other settings besides TML bak with higher autogen, more traffic, etc.cheers-andy crosbyeditfor comparison, system specs are i7 930 (not overclocked yet), gtx470 (1.5g) , 6g ram, win7x64 ultimate
