May 26, 201016 yr I'm just getting into T/P and do not know what to expect in the way of terrain. I now I am not getting anything like you can see on the yahoo world map. it would be nice If one of you old hands would post a screen shot so we have an idea what we are looking at. thanks.
May 27, 201016 yr rudder, not sure what you are asking... screenies posted in the forums only last 30 days or so....Mark posts most of his here and links to them so they're always available: http://s499.photobucket.com/albums/rr353/CoBMrTube/A number of people post Tileproxy shots in the screenshot forum here: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showforum=147Ed's guide to using Tileproxy has many screenshots in it: www.edtruthan.com/tileproxy/tutorial Perhaps the best way to start is to use some place you know well (such as your home town) - save a flight at that location and make it the default flight - tileproxy starts by default with the location of the default flight. It will take several minutes to download the jpg images and make them into scenery. If the scenery at Yh or VE isn't very good then you may have to select a different location. You don't have to start with high resolution scenery. I usually do a wide area at low resolution before I mess around with high res. Lots of places don't even have any high res imagery...Flashearth doesn't display zoom level so you might be better off making the final settings by going to VE and Yahoo maps directly; don't waste resources trying to make scenery at a higher resolution than is available on line. But here is LIMJ, Genoa, Italy. Good imagery visible on line means it can be good with Tileproxy. Since this imagery appears to be good to level 17 (1.2m), I set up Tileproxy like so...max_lod=15preload_min_lod=8preload_max_lod=17-----water_mask=Onwater_blending=Onblend_distance=230.0blend_exponent=1.0alpha_min=0.2678alpha_max=0.7water_rgb=#407B80 # customized for Med--------cache_folder=D:\cacheMED # I use regional caches instead of 'service' cachesnetwork_module=libnettilemodule_config="conn=4|rate=1.0|verbose=0|server=....min_level=10max_level=17map_version=426level_mapping=10,11,12,14,14,15,16,17here is the view in FSX after making 1.2m scenery If this doesn't answer your question, try to clarify for us...Loyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro

Here is a" Yahoo" online pic. of our Mall, it looks to me like it should look good in FSX. no matter what i try never looks like this.

Here is a" Yahoo" online pic. of our Mall, it looks to me like it should look good in FSX. no matter what i try never looks like this.Ok, obvious next question... what does it look like? What are your essential TP configuration settings (like those I listed)What are your FSX essentials ( rather than posting the entire fsx.cfg, post just the 37-38 elements from a saved configuration - much simpler to read.)Loyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro

May 28, 201016 yr Rudder,One of the handy things you can do in FSX is SAVE various configurations and reload them.Menu > Settings > SaveMenu > Settings > LoadThis lets you "experiment" with different setting combinations and load/reload a different one in moments instead of going back through all the menus trying to remember how you had it set that worked so well before...Instead of copying the entire FSX config and posting all the unnecessary stuff, you merely save a copy of your current configuration ( with the settings that matter ) and post that.So my (right this moment) current configuration looks like this:[GRAPHICS] TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024 NUM_LIGHTS=8 AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=1 AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1 COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1 LANDING_LIGHTS=0 AC_SELF_SHADOW=0 EFFECTS_QUALITY=2 GROUND_SHADOWS=0[sCENERY] LENSFLARE=0 DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING=1 IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=5[DISPLAY] BLOOM_EFFECTS=0 SKINNED_ANIMATIONS=1 TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=80 UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=30[PANELS] QUICKTIPS=0 PANEL_OPACITY=100[TERRAIN] LOD_RADIUS=3.500000 MESH_COMPLEXITY=100 MESH_RESOLUTION=22 TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=25 AUTOGEN_DENSITY=1 DETAIL_TEXTURE=1 WATER_EFFECTS=1[WEATHER] CLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE=3 DETAILED_CLOUDS=1 CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=5 THERMAL_VISUALS=0 DownloadWindsAloft=0 DisableTurbulence=0[TrafficManager] AirlineDensity=0 GADensity=0 FreewayDensity=0 ShipsAndFerriesDensity=0 LeisureBoatsDensity=0 IFROnly=0 AIRPORT_SCENERY_DENSITY=0these config files are 'user' files so they are stored in the my documents\FSX folder with your saved flights. There are 38 actual parameters saved but we probably only need to see the few highlighted in red...What I think I'm seeing is the center of the picture that should be the sharpest actually looks less sharp than the surrounding area in your screenshot... In your FSX.cfgmake sure your TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD is at least 1024 (the normal max)TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=25 ( this is 1m resolution in the display settings to match your TP settings)LOD_RADIUS= can be anything from 3.5 to 6.5 depending on your horsepower and your preferences. One thing that CAN account for some areas being less sharp than others: If there is even a single jpg missing from the set needed to make a particular scenery tile, Tileproxy will drop to the next lower resolution that has a complete set and use that instead - so it is possible to have fuzzy scenery blocks in the midst of sharp ones. Last time I was at Innsbruck I noticed tiles missing at the server and I could see the difference in the sim as I flew around. It's a "little" tedious to check individual scenery tiles and see what they look like inside and what resolution they actually are but it can be worth it to get a problem resolved.I've flown that area with TP some time ago (I love flying Skyline Drive and the valley), I'll look at back at my imagery and stuff and see what it looks like for me in ms and yh. I'll have a comparison shot this evening for you then we'll know whether it's source or settings that is causing the issue hopefully.Loyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
May 29, 201016 yr Sorry I took longer than expected... dang countryside is just to pretty to 'kiss and run'..online imagery is adequate and solid - no missing tilesI really think the issue is FSX sluggish display updating unless you have a seriously top-of-the-line processor.my 3 GHz dual core cannot update 1.2m scenery without frequent pauses to keep it sharp except flying the slowest ultralight. So that's one limitation. In your screenie with the fuzzy mall area, were you enroute from the airport? (would it have sharpened up after a few more moments?)The next issue that I re-encountered is the range of 1.2m resolution: With LOD_Radius at "max" (4.5) you are only showing that resolution for approximately ONE full Scenery tile around you! A scenery tile contains the "equivalent" of 4 x 4 1.2m units so that high resolution imagery is going to be VERY short range. Short enough that it's almost pointless if you fly from the cockpit because it will almost always be only UNDER YOU. How big is a scenery tile?... red squarelink, if you want it... http://www.ptsim.com/sbuilder/ymaps.asp?La...Zoom=14&T=0From your location across the xway from the mall, you were in range perhaps but the sim may not have gotten around to loading it... The finer the resolution, the smaller the units, the more frequently you cross a boundary and FSX has to recalculate and refresh the scenery. You certainly should be able to get reasonably clean edges on the roofline and such... and I can just see the white lines in parking lots also.So you should be able to have "as real as it gets" at that location, even if only slowly. My normal max is 2.4m/level 16 for all the reasons listed aboveLoyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
