Some problems

Recommended Posts

Hi Brian,Your accent is not the issue as we have non native English speakers successfully using the software. A lot of continental Europeans. Even some Asians. If the FO does not respond to something, the odds are you are in the wrong "mode".You can see which mode you're in by looking at the FS2Crew Main Display panel. So, if you want to call for the Before Start Check, make sure the mode says "Before Start".Say: "Before Start Check"You'd then perform the Captain's flow action. And the FO will perform his. While the FO is performing his flow, you'll notice a "+" symbol appended to the end of Before Start, so it'll look like "Before Start+"Another thought:If you don't hear anything, make sure that your audio device is selected on the Audio setup panel if using the Headset. If the wrong audio device is selected, and HS selected, you won't hear anything.Cheers,

Bryan,Thank you very much for your prompt reaction to my enquiry. In my example the mode was showing as "Before Start" but with no "+". and my audio is set up for the correct device, indeed was working properly until getting to the "Before Start". I had started the flight from a cold & dark situation and things were working well. I do accept that I have made mistakes during my use of this superb addon mainly in the use of wrong phraseology and the learning curve I find steep, however whilst understanding the errors which I know to be mine, I find the FO`s sudden unexplained silences and my lack of finding a way to get him up and running again a bit annoying. At the moment I would not feel confident in conducting an online flight with VATSIM and using my fs2crew to help, which it would most certainly do when should it be working as I am sure it is capable. May I ask you, which drills would I expect to be carried out silently and which can I expect to be carried out on a challenge and response basis. At the moment my understanding is that a "flow" is carried out silently and a "Check" is just that ie is just a confirmation that all important actions have not been missed. The "Checks" as written on the printed checklist I would assume are all done on a challenge and reponse with both pilots actively participating. Have I got this right? Thanks for your help Bryan,Brian

I've found out that if FO can't understand something you say, or you not sure what to say, saying NEXT gets it going again.Greg

Hello Brian,Did you physically print out the manual? All the action flows, which are done silently, are defined there.Printing out the manual so you can easily reference it, will make things a lot easier. We extensively tested the software, so I'm not sure what's happening during Before Start for you. If running the Pre-Flight events, are you waiting for the timer to reach zero (hash marks shown in the time window)? If not, please do ensure the time is zero and the main exit door is closed. Thanks,

That is correct.It's a backup I devised.Cheers,

Thank you both for your suggestions. I had indeed printed out the manual, all of it. My problem stemmed from the fact that I had not read it carefully enough. I am usually very intolerant of reading posts the originators of which have omitted to read manuals. Just goes to show that one should not stand in a glasshouse and throw stones!! I must add that I thought that my reading of the manual had been quite diligent but had failed to read the small print. All is now going very well and I am delighted with this addon. Thank you Bryan and your fellow developers, for your not inconsiderable effort in making the PMDG J4100 one of the most powerful addon aircraft available to serious simmers. All that and a Manual of such detail too, :( Best regards,Brian.
