Updating the Database

Featured Replies

Just a quick question here that I've not found an answer to in the manual yet. When updating the scenery database, does RC see scenery added in a separate folder (I keep my addon's in FSX>X_AddonScenery)? If not, is there a way to point RC to it?Secondly (assuming "yes" to the previous question), does a sceenry have to actually be ticked as active in FSX if it is to be read by RC (i.e. if the folder is listed in the FSX Scenery database within FSX, but not selected as active)?Thank you much for your help.Glenn

RC uses in its process Makerwys.exe. It will appropriately execute it. In RC 4 when starting the scenery rebuild it will each time ask you to put in the path to your FS folder. (I keep mine in a text file accessible from the desktop so I can copy/paste it in.)Makerwys gets its folder search information and priority information from scenery.cfg. Scenery.cfg contains the path to your scenery file locations. As far as I know the scenery must be active in the list. After Makerwys creates several data files in your FS folder they are copied to your RC4/data folder and processed. All tasks are accomplished from with RC. Only if RC is on a network client of an FS host is manual intervention required.Executing the scenery rebuild database is another reason why RC needs the setting to be run as an admin so it can execute makerwys.exe in your FS folder and then copy files from the FS folder back to the RC/data file and doing further processing, all without your intervention (on a non-networked client) once you have entered your FS folder path. You can check if all went OK by looking at the properties of rc4.csv in the RC4/data folder. After the rc4.csv is created RC creates the a4.csv file from that.If you add scenery to FS, then after you have adjusted the scenery library settings, close FS and then restart it to insure FS has reindexed your scenery appropriately. Then once again close FS and then from within RC run the scenery database rebuild. This includes running the rebuild any time scenery files are modified.
