Water/Cliff issue

Featured Replies

Hi all it's my first post :),I've recently made a re-design of Skiathos (LGSK) in Greece for FSX using ADE 9x. With my FSX i'm also using UTX. I have an issue that the old exterior boundary for the old airport still remains. At first there was the fence itself and the perimeter, now it's just the perimeter. This is a bit of a problem for me as not only does it keep the old scenery ground texture in a larger space than needed, the old perimeter crosses over water because i'm using UTX and this causes a raised area of water which is aesthetically disgusting. Help would be very appreciated and i've attached an image to explain better :( (My friend has also used the .bgl for the airport but he doesn't have this issue. He is also using UTX.)

It appears the default "airport background" is still being used. It looks like you have improved shorelines, but you also need to know if you are or will be using addon mesh for the area.In any case, in ADEX you need to create a polygon that covers the approximate area of the airport (does not need to be precise) set to type "exclude general" and tag "airport backgrounds". that gets rid of the default texture and flattening. If you use the default mesh, it appears the airport is at proper elevation, so you need to create a polygon that properly flattens just the actual airport area (include runway, aprons, and taxiways at least). Be careful to be accurate where the airport is close to the shore. Set this polygon to type "airport background" and tag at least "flatten". depending on how it looks in the sim, you can either change the tag to include either or both of the "maskclassmap" (to change the texture) and "excludeautogen" to get rid of autogen buildings and vegetation. If you need a bigger area coverage for the "maskclassmap" and/or "excludeautogen" you can create a second airport background polygon for that on top of your flatten. When you are done compile the airport. In addition to your main "AFCAD" file, you get a second "cvx" file you must place in the sim along with the AFCAD file (same folder is fine). If you use addon mesh, you need to determine the elevation in the area. First do the exclusion polygon (only), compile and install in FSX. You can connect ADEX to FSX and slew your aircraft around around the the airport. Depending on the difference between the default and addon mesh elevations, the runway may be floating or buried. That's OK. What you want is to read the elevation (shown in upper left in ADEX while connected) and take notes as you slew around the airport area. There isn't a precise answer but in general you want your airport elevation at or close to the highest elevation around the airport, paying particular attention to the areas past the end of the runways. When you determine that elevation if it is different than default (which is 15.24m) use the change airport altitude tool to change the airport elevation as required and then create the airport background flatten as before, ensuring the flatten elevation is at or slightly lower than the airport elevation. Then compile and install again. ADEX will automatically place an airport alt change "AFCAD" in the scenery\world\scenery folder (you should always place it in that specific folder).scott s..
