About to buy this PC, Are the components alright for FSX?

Featured Replies

Hello all, first post but definitely not the last. Good to be on these forums after lurking around.Anyway, I've decided (almost) to buy a PC someone is selling off of craigslist but I'm really nervous it won't run FSX superbly like I desire. The link is: http://reno.craigslist.org/sys/1788907423.htmlThe Specs are:Processor: Intel Quad Core Q9450 Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit Motherboard: EVGA 750i FTW RAM memory: CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 8GB Video cards: two EVGA Nvidia 9800 GTX+ cards in SLI mode Hard drives: Velociraptor 74 GB, and 500 GB storage drive both sata drives. Cooling: Cool It Freezone Elite Power Supply: Silverstone ST1000 1000W Does anyone have any comments on this machine? Would you expect it to run FSX very well (like all sliders to the right) or mid-grade as in all sliders in the middle?Any input is greatly appreciated!-Zach

Only top of the range i7's can run FSX all sliders to the right and still have a smooth flight. However for mid settings it should be fine. Also you would e better to get an i7 9xx DDR3 computer as they are future proof for the time being whereas the core 2 quads are not made anymore.

thanks chris. i was kind of figuring it would be 'middle' settings. i like the liquid cooling it has so im sure i can overclock the CPU to somewhere above 3. the RAM is not as strong as many people have its only 800 Mhz and DDR2 but that shouldn't hurt me too much in overclocking or will it?in the very least he says he'll give a 30 day guarantee so ill ask him if FSX doesnt run to my satisfaction if i can return it and hopefully that will be fine.Z

That would be best. It's hard to tell for me, because I jumped from a pentium 4 3GHz to a i7 980x so I really can't say.

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit
I'm hearing that Windows 7 is providing a big boost to FSX performance over Vista.
