I have a payware aircraft that I've been flying for a while. I usually drop the gear at 175mph and continue landing from there.Recently I purchased another payware a/c from a different developer and have been also flying that a bit.Since flying #2 I have noticed that if I lower the gear on #1 at 175mph - NOTHING happens until the speed drops to 150mph and THEN the gear deploys.I've tried resetting default flight, loading a default a/c, rebuilding the fsx.cfg file - can not get a/c #1 to lower gear above 150mph.Both are recent FSX developed a/c.ANyone have any thoughts? If there were a gear speed restriction, where would it be configured and is it editable?Thanx,Vic

Normally, you wouldn't expect that adding another aircraft would have any effect on your existing aircraft but nothing in FSX surprises me anymore.Have you, by any chance, changed some FSX realism settings? There are some settings in the aircraft.cfg related to wheel extension speeds although I'm not sure these would be the cause of the problem. Here is an extract from the Lotus L39 aircraft.cfg file with the first three contact points (ie wheels). The second last entry in each line is Airspeed limit for retraction (KIAS).[contact_points]//0 Class//1 Longitudinal Position (feet)//2 Lateral Position (feet)//3 Vertical Position (feet)//4 Impact Damage Threshold (Feet Per Minute)//5 Brake Map (0=None, 1=Left, 2=Right)//6 Wheel Radius (feet)//7 Steer Angle (degrees)//8 Static Compression (feet) (0 if rigid)//9 Max/Static Compression Ratio//10 Damping Ratio (0=Undamped, 1=Critically Damped)//11 Extension Time (seconds)//12 Retraction Time (seconds)//13 Sound Type//14 Airspeed limit for retraction =(KIAS)//15 Airspeed that gear gets damage at=(KIAS)point.0= 1.000, 12.9, 0.000, -6.650, 1600.000, 0.000, 0.710, 30.000, 0.10, 3.50, 0.7, 4.200, 4.000, 0, 225, 224point.1= 1.000, -1.840, -4.590, -6.450, 2200.000, 1.000, 1.020, 0.000, 0.10, 2.20, 0.8, 4.500, 5.100, 2, 225, 224point.2= 1.000, -1.840, 4.590, -6.450, 2200.000, 2.000, 1.020, 0.000, 0.10, 2.20, 0.8, 4.000, 5.000, 3, 225, 224It would be more helpful however if you could advise what aircraft it is that you are having a problem with. Being vague about a problem makes it harder for people to help so if you have a problem please provide as much information as possible as it will increase the chances of a solution being found.

Thanx for the input.I didn't want to appear to be complaining about any specific a/c but:The main a/c I fly is tghe A2A ** P-51D - the gear will extend at about 174ktsAfter I flew the VRS Superbug, the gear will not extend until airspeed has dropped to 145kts.I've made no changes to realism - always have it set at highest. Other than the VRS Superbug, have added nothing, made no changes nor tweaks.Unfortunately, I was trying a bunch of different tings to see if I could reset the problem and I did - only didn't really document what I was doing. The P-51 worked fine after that until I tried the Superbug again - then same issue.Contacted the VRS folks and they haven't a clue as to what might be going on.There is some variable that is not being initialized or cleared. For example, there are some payware a/c that require you to load a default Cessna to initialize the system and then switch to their a/c. Tried that but it didn't fix the issue.

Reinstalled p-51 with no change. Rebuilt FSX.CFG and problem went away. Put back old fsx.cfg and problem came back. Strange

Does the problem still persist when you load in the VRS superbug?I've got the a2a P51 but not the VRS. I haven't flown the a2a for ages though so don't recall the landing gear behaviour. It's interesting to note that the P51 uses XML gauges. The thing with XML gauges is that you can't save custom variable settings using XML. You would need to use C programmed gauges if you wanted to save things so it would be hard to believe that the P51 was the cause of the problems. Rebuilding your fsx.cfg will delete any permissions you have given for aircraft gauges which is why I ask if the problem returns when you load the VRS.It's also interesting to note the settings for the landing gear speeds in teh a2a aircraft.cfg file which are 148 for limit for retraction and 180 for gear gets damaged. I will have a fly later tonight to see what she does in my system.I must say it is an interesting little problem you have there :) . Still have no idea what may be the cause.

Solved! After a lot of trial and error with the FSX.FCG file I found the setting that causes the issue. If I have Stress causes damage checked in realism, the gear will not extend above 145 on the P-51. The confusion with the Superbug is that when I installed the bug, I checked 'stress' option and forgot about it.I would have thought that having the stress option checked would result in a crash or damage etc if gear were extended above rated speed rather than preventing gear extension. Not at my system right now but IIRC the P-51 manual says 174mph is max gear extension speed, which to me would indicate that if the stress option were checked, it should still extend at 174.At least the mystery has been solved - it's been really annoying! :)Thanx for the help,Vic

Yep Vic,Just had a go at the P51 and did some testing to see what was what and was about to report the same. If you have "Detect Crashes and Damage" ticked and "Aircraft Stress Causes Damage" ticked then the limits on the gear retraction speeds appear to apply to any FSX aircraft. In the a2a P51 this is set to 146 knots in the aircraft.cfg contact points section (about 168 mph, make sure you don't get confused between knots and mph which can be easy to do on older aircraft which may have the airspeed inidcated in mph) and I found the P51 would only extend the gear when the airspeed was less than 146 knots when I had the Aircraft Stress Causes Damage ticked . If you have aircraft stress causes damage unticked then you can extend the gear at any speed you like.
