July 1, 201015 yr Hi AllThe official line from JustFlight is, "The AI aircraft are built with different levels of detail (LODs). This means that you can see all of the aircraft detail when close to the AI aircraft, but when you are a significant distance from it less detail will be visible. This allows you to have a large number of AI aircraft without affecting performance too greatly".However, I'm seeing this occur with AI that are two or three parking gates away from my aircraft. As they pullback, they proceed to taxi on one wheel :( . Strangely, certain AI types like A319s seem far worse than others like B738s.I'm hoping that this may highlight a setting that isn't right with my FSX setup possibly regarding LOD setings (?) as I can't help thinking that if this was an issue with Traffic X, more people would bring to it JF's attention. Problem is, I'm fairly new to FSX, so I'm not too sure where to start looking.I would be curious to know what other peoples' experiences are with Traffic X and if anyone may have a suggestion how to overcome this very annoying problem. Many thanks Gary
July 2, 201015 yr LOD is level of detail. Now, there are two types of LOD used in FSX but the one you are refering to is part of the model and there is no setting in FSX to change it.The theory goes like this: There is a main model and this is given the largest LOD number and there may or may not be additional LOD models all contained in the model file (files that end with .mdl). The additional LOD models will have less and less detail as this means there will be less to draw when the object is further away and so improve framerates. For example: the default 737 has the following LOD models in the exterior model: 400, 100, 50, 20 and 5. If the model, when drawn on screen will be larger than 400 pixels then the LOD 400 model is used. If the model, when drawn on screen will be 70 pixels then the LOD 50 model will be drawn. The LOD models used are determined by the developer and the LOD numbers used are determined by the developer. THe only way a user could possibly change them would be to use a binary editor and start hacking at the model but you sure better know what your doing before going down this road (although some clever spark may have developed a utility to do this but I don't know of one).I used DrawCallMonitor to find out the LOD levels of the 737:http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8967
