SID/DP

Featured Replies

The is about the use of SID/DPs.Typically, I avoid putting the DP into the flight plan. For example on a flight today from Paris to Frankfurt I filed the following plan.LFPG CTL MMD LUXIE KIR EDDF.CTL, the first fix is about 41 miles from LFPG.Given that its above 30 miles, RC4 gave me all 3 options - alt restrictions, no alt restrictions and no dep procedure.I chose "no alt restrictions" because I was planning on flying a published DP to CTL (actually flying a DP that took me close to CTL, because no published DP actually takes you to CTL. In fact none of the published DPs take you to a common fix. They all go to different fixes so choosing a common one is hard). From the manual, my understanding was that -If you don't have at least one fix in your flight plan that lies within 30 miles of the departing airport, then RC4 will assume that we don't have a plan to fly a DP and will begin vectoring you to your first fix - in my case CTL.This did not occur. RC4 allowed me to fly my DP to NAPIX (close to CTL) and then connect to CTL. Can someone help me understand what I am missing? Thanks in advance.Firstinflight

Choosing either of the altitude restrictions options means no vectors, that you are following a published DP within the first 30 nm. No DP means you are not following a published procedure and will get vectors. If your first waypoint is within 30 nm then the No DP option is grayed out meaning you'll be expected to navigate on your own crossing your included waypoints within those thirty miles. If your first waypoint is outside of 30 nm then all three options are available.Alt restrictions means RC will assign altitudes for you to adhere to during climb the first 30 nm. No altitude restrictions means RC will not watch your altitude during the first 30 nm. You can elect to follow the published DP altitudes or those in your FMC until outside of the first 30 nm at which point you need to keep climbing to your initial clearance defined altitude. In both cases there is no monitoring of your horizontal position.Pages 107 through 109 in the RC 4.3 manual which was updated from previous versions.
